I am a big believer that long-term economic viability of any organization is closely linked & dependent on social & environmental responsibility. Ever since I was young, I wondered what successful companies & entrepreneurs have in common. I also wondered about the specific role of capital markets & its stakeholders & questioned their integrity & purpose outside of purely making money. During my career it became clear that well managed companies take a holistic approach & understand that human & environmental concerns can become an innate driver of a company. These firms, knowingly or not, undertake careful analysis of the benefits to managing E,S & G risks with a long-term approach to governance, often turning risks into an opportunity. By doing so, these organisations become more attractive for investors, translating the non-financial into extra-financial performance. Interestingly, there is clear evidence that financial institutions, asset managers & asset owners, are the actual drivers of change, taking on some of the larger challenges as climate change, social & racial inequality or others. Who would have thought? I am highly passionate about ESG, tackling the “ESG Blackbox” & making the biggest megatrend in financial markets more manageable for corporations, their C-suite, boards, investor relations, sustainability & communication teams. As a team lead, I believe that financial institutions now truly start to integrate ESG into both their investment & stewardship policies. To not be fooled by greenwashing nor be surprised by the incredible pace of change, data & intelligence should form the base for strategic decision making. This should be reflected in the way companies are managed & governed, their disclosure & reporting as well as their communication & engagement. This is exactly, where my team can help. As a human, I believe that one must lead by example. My goal is to develop a people-first culture that prioritizes fairness, integrity, & empathy.
