EMT Healthcare is a third generation family business, operating as a wholesaler and distributor to independent pharmacies across the UK and Ireland.

Main achievements in role:
- Doubled EBITDA in two years with little change in top-line sales
- Drove significant cost savings, including removing non-value add marketing spend, exiting unprofitable commercial partnerships and rationalising the company's property footprint
- Increased gross margin through customer-level profitability analysis to highlight need for pricing changes
- Significantly improved transactional processes in AP and AR, saving approx. 10 working days per month
- Streamlined month-end process so management accounts are both more accurate and faster to produce
- Implemented EOS at senior leadership level, resulting in better accountability, planning and communication across the business, as well as enhanced visibility of KPIs

Capital One

Capital One UK is a credit card business focused on near-prime customers, with around £2B in credit card outstandings and 2.8m active customers. 

I led the Finance Analytics team, focusing on long-term financial planning, partnering with the wider business on financial implications of strategic changes. 

Key achievements:
- Partnered UK LT to devise a new long-term financial plan, resulting in the first significant strategic change for Capital One UK since 2008
- Advised business on P&L implications of change to CECL accounting standard and the impacts on our debt recovery strategy
- Led initiative to upskill finance analysts in SQL to make better use of data sources like Snowflake and Teradata
- Consulted on change to internal capital allocation framework and the implications for lending program
- Promoted to Senior Manager in January 2021

Head of Finance Analytics

Promoted to Head of Finance in April 2017 -- my role includes all that I did as Commercial Accountant, plus line management responsibility for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions (2 FTE), and  responsibility for managing cashflow within the business. I also build cost models for tender bids, as well as support a project to implement a new CAFM system.

Head of Finance

Reporting in to the Finance Director, I was responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts and P&L for the Board, as well as producing monthly contract P&Ls for contract managers. I also produced the year-end accounts and audit file, and took the lead on resolved any audit queries.

As part of this role I built, developed and automated monthly contract reporting dashboards to show performance vs. budget for each individual contract, and then implemented monthly finance review meetings with all operations managers to review and discuss their financial performance. Along with the Finance Director, for 2017 we produced a full, granular, bottom-up budget for every contract, for the first time in the company's history, as well as a full-year cashflow forecast. As a result of these efforts the company's net margin improved from 0.2% in 2015 to 2.2% in 2016.

First full-time employeer for a US-based media startup that helps people write and publish their own books. Joined the company when they had done $200k in revenue and had 16 clients, and left having done around $2m in revenue and approximately 120 clients. My main focus was on managing and completing author book projects, and continuous improvement on our processes and customer journey.

Created and developed new project-based MI for project managers and project boards to review, to allow better financial control and planning.

Financial Analyst

Business partnered a number of key departments to advise on compliance risk. Also monitored the changing regulatory environment and assessed the impact on NFU Mutual and advised senior management and department heads, as well as preparing briefing notes and reports for the Board.

Compliance Consultant

Placement in Group Finance department of a £1.2bn turnover insurance company, split between Planning team and Reporting team. Played a key role in month-end process, producing month-end MI packs for senior management, ExCo and Board. I also produced quarterly and year-end statutory accounts for three subsidiary companies.
