While I've got three (3) exits, the biggest lessons are learned from the failures, struggles, and "misses". The journey has taught me a ton of lessons. I grew up in a small blue collar town. My parents worked blue collar jobs, and hard work was all I knew. They poured into us daily. In 2007, I went from an engineer to an entrepreneur, and that changed my life forever. I co-founded my first venture, an innovative clean energy company, in 2007. I bootstrapped it into an eventual 8-figure sale to a private equity firm. I then bought an oilfield service company. We grew it into a leading product/service company. Then, we sold it to a North Dakota based buyer. We took that company from $700,000 in revenue to $2.5 million in a couple of years. Life is not always "Up and to the Right", though... I started many ventures that failed or never took off. Some nearly ran out of money on many occasions. I've had to hire, fire, coach, and grow hundreds of employees... Let's just say that I've learned a lot. No failures, just lessons. In 2020, I founded a Venture Builder / Startup Studio called BlackSmith Ventures.
