Atom is the UK's first app-based bank.  I lead the technology team, creating retail and business banking savings and loans products.

Chief Technology Officer

The Customer and Products division includes retail, convenience and other B2C and B2B businesses. I am responsible for the strategy, design and build of existing and new digital products, creating new customer touch points and revenue streams.

I lead the Digital team of software engineers, architects, CX/UX designers and analysts.

Examples of my products include:
•	BPMe – pay for fuel mobile app.  User count has doubled to over 6m across 6 markets globally during COVID19.  In 2020 my team has added partnership loyalty, price-match and carbon offset subscription and click-and-collect functionality to the basic pay for fuel app.
•	BP ChargeMaster – EV charging mobile app.  My team rewrote the app to provide a world-class CX, including a realtime map of charging points.  All hosted using serverless stack in AWS cloud.
•	Uber Pro – We partnered with Uber to build BPMe rewards into Uber’s driver app.

I have driven the cycle time of new features down from months to weeks, using Agile and DevOps principles.  Feedback from senior stakeholders includes "wow - I've never seen IT done like this before!".

Head of Customer and Products Digital

Modernise IT totally rethinks how BP does IT, changing every aspect of how 10,000 people deliver $2bn worth of IT services, so we are now at the heart of BP's Digital Transformation.

I provided thought leadership and drove execution, including influencing and managing relationships with the CEOs, CFOs and CIOs of each division plus the Group CIO and Group Controller.

Workstreams included:
•	Ways of Working – move from mainly Waterfall to over 90% of projects now using Agile
•	Finance – introduce Agile and DevOps compatible financial assurance processes
•	Skills and Sourcing – Upskill 2,000 BP IT employees and change vendor mix from low-cost GSIs to high capability “Agile to the core” vendors
•	Platforms and Automation – Introduce a Technical Reference model of 11 standard IT platforms including AWS, Azure, Salesforce and ServiceNow
•	Digital Foundations – Introduce Office365, Windows 10 and new devices to 80,000 BP employees
•	Project to Product – reorganise around Products and business value-chains, bringing together Project and Run organisations to true DevOps teams
•	Culture and Engagement – keeping the workforce engaged through a time of intense change.  Change culture from “do it cheap” to Excellence, Growth Mindset and Continuous Improvement

Mod IT is recognised as the most impactful transformation ever performed in BP IT&S and across the Oil and Gas industry.  I have been asked to present our transformation story at the 2021 DevOps Enterprise Summit by Gene Kim, one of the founders of the DevOps movement.

Head of Modernise IT Transformation

Accountable for vision, definition and build-out of systems across the Global Oil trading business in BP's IST division.

Products I delivered include:
•	“Gordon” – alerts traders to arbitrages.  Increased P&L by $20m/year ($100m to 2020)
•	Global Energy Map – tracks all vessels globally, allowing analysts to determine Crude and refined products supply and demand.  Delivered $200m P&L over 10 years.
•	Operator Workbench – suite of apps for Schedulers and Operators, removing manual errors and reducing safety events

Transformed from fully outsourced Waterfall delivery of legacy systems to BP-led Agile and DevOps delivery of cloud-hosted microservices architecture.

Changed relationship between business and IT from hostility and ambivalence to collaboration and value-driver.

CIO Global Oil, Integrated Supply and Trading

Responsible for vision, definition and build-out of systems for the Front Office within the Global Oil trading business in BP's IST (Integrated Supply and Trading) division.

Transformed the Oil Front Office IT from Excel based solutions to enterprise technology.
Introduced Agile and DevOps methodologies, to drive rapid value and feedback.

Bank of America

Responsible for the architecture and built-out of Service Oriented Architecture across Global Markets and Research Technology.
•	Built a reusable message-oriented-middleware connecting all GMRT risk systems, to provide consolidated risk to head of trading

Director, Global Markets and Research Technology Strategy and Architecture

The Global Banking System (GBS) supports the Global Product Solutions business outside of the USA and provides back office functionality for Global Foreign Exchange worldwide.  It handles roughly $1 trillion per day.
•	Drove the migration from a 20m lines of COBOL mainframe system to modern Java on x86
•	Managed relationship with US Regulators, who were concerned with the systemic risk of an obsolete system with huge financial flows
•	Built up Indian “captive” centre in Bangalore and managed knowledge transfer
•	Introduced Agile delivery, moving from 2 releases a year to 10

Director, Head of GBS Development, Global Payments and International Branch Technology

Led development teams supporting electronic FX sales and trading.
•	Technology improvements moved BofA from 15th in Euromoney rankings to 5th in a single year
•	Accompanied sales teams on client visits to demonstrate power of our software

Director, Head of Pricing, Client Connectivity and Systematic Risk Management, GFX Technology

Built the world’s largest Compute Grid in financial markets, spanning London, New York, Chicago, Charlotte and Tokyo. The Grid supplies compute resource to multiple lines of business, balancing supply with global demand 24x7.
•	More timely risk results released $20m of risk reserves
•	Worked with DataSynapse on strategic direction of their product

Worked on Structured Interest Rate trade capture and risk management system.  Ported from Solaris to Linux and designed and implemented distributed calculation risk management system.

I worked as a developer on an interest rate derivative market risk system, using the montecarlo VaR methodology.  The core system was implemented in C++ with a Java GUI.
