My time at VJ was pleasurable and full of learning. We were 8 interns. We were fortunate to have Ranjit Gaikwad sir as our mentor and facilitator. He was a humble and grounded. He was always ready to give and share everything he knew.

Every day, he'd take an hour or two especially for us to teach minute aspects of site management. 
He'd give practical insights and we'd take notes. 

He'd send us in groups to carry out measurements and do surveys. We witnessed construction of two slabs. 

One interesting incident I remember was when it rained cats and dogs the previous day and the first two floors were filled with water. The laborers lived there. When Ranjit sir saw the unhygienic situation that got created on the ground floor, he himself took the broom and wiper and cleaned the entire floor!

That day, I witness what it means to be a proactive leader.

Apart from technical skills, I learned people management from Ranjit sir. 

As a project manager, he was handling 2 sites.Both running before time and with utmost quality. 

His aura and the way he talked with people enabled him to get things done without he leaving his cabin!

During my 1 month at VJ, I learned the importance of team work. The site team was accountable to the office team and the 3rd party quality rating agency. This made the process smooth.

VJ had a policy to allocate floor wise funds. This prevented the firm from cost escalation.

It was indeed a holistic experience of working at a construction site.

I thought I was the most intelligent person alive.
 
The internet broke my cosmic ego into tiny atoms
 
Here's the story:
 
I was 23 when I got a master's degree
 
By this time, I had already read numerous books that made me smarter than any person. I was questioning society. I was a rebel at home. No one would dare to outsmart me.
 
I was an independent thinker with a big vision. I was one step away from changing the world.
  

And I was progressing way too fast...

 
Every morning, I would wake up with a breakthrough idea. By 10 am, that idea would make me millions.  
 
I would not stop there.
 
Noon and I would've written a step-by-step flow of how I will turn my idea into success. Everything would happen systematically. The business would run smoothly. No mishap. I took care of everything myself.

 
Months went and I accumulated hundreds of business ideas that would turn into successful ventures. Each idea was worth $100 million.


Alas, I made no real progress. 

I was a serial procrastinator.

  
It happened.

One day, I decided to take one of my ideas to reality. It was April 2021 when I entered the business world.
 
Nothing fancy. I started a blog.
 
That blog would later become a career mentorship platform.
 
My search for quality content for my blog made me scan hundreds of websites. I studied accounts on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Medium. I was a student at the Internet University. 
 
Weeks and weeks went to research, read, learn, and build.
 
Even small tasks like building a drag-and-drop WordPress site, and writing quality articles, take weeks and months. A lot more than I imagined. My vision became a distant reality. A sense of urgency grabbed my mind.

 I hardly made any progress as planned.
 
If one idea will take such a huge amount of time, when will I make my first $100 M? When will I work on the other 99 ideas?

I was devastated. I felt cheated by my brain.

They say don't believe in everything you think. They are right. Look at me. I was the living example.

I took a chill pill. 

It was hard to chew. It was harder to digest. But those days taught me a very important lesson.

Those 18 months broke my cosmic ego.
  
I came across hundreds of intelligent minds.

I came across people who've built businesses worth billions.

I came across

-People who've influenced millions
-Experts who've mastered a skill for years
-Geniuses who've read hundreds of books
-Innovators who've filed dozens of patents 
  
Each time I came across one such person, I would feel awed. 

I became inspired. My ego broke. 

It's been years and I still feel imposter. I now know I am not the most intelligent person. So, I keep quiet wherever I go.
 
The Internet changed me for good - It taught me phenomenal humility and broke my KNOWLEDGE EGO into trillion tiny pieces.

If you are early in your LinkedIn journey, commenting can give you more reach than publishing content.

Commenting below big accounts gives your profile more visibility. 

How? 

Think of commenting as trend-jacking. 

Big accounts have a massive audience who are likely to read their posts. Many also scroll through the comment section. 

If you are early to write a thoughtful comment below their post, your comment remains on the top, allowing curious people to visit your profile. 

So, in the early stage of your LinkedIn growth journey, comment frequently below well-written thoughtful posts. 

Here is a time-saving trick:

Research and follow 15–20 top profiles. 

These people can be anyone in the areas of your expertise or areas of your interest. 

Observe and note their publishing timings. Almost every top account schedules posts at a specific time. 

Now you have the data. Be active and comment when your thought leader publishes their posts so that your comment will be at the top — giving your profile insane visibility at no additional effort!


Tip: Avoid generic comments like ‘nice post’ and ‘great post.’ 

Stop wasting time writing generic templates. People ignore cliches. Instead, think of your comment as a mini-post. Write them with a unique angle. Put your brain to work to make the highest ROI on each comment.

Content is a Perpetual Asset
Create great content once. Share it often. 

Looks promising! Unfortunately, most businesses fail to do both.
 
->They create mediocre content
->They do not share content often
 
Both practices result in a waste of time, effort, resources, and money.
 
It is a loss for reader and writer as well.
 
No wonder, as a reader, you would've come across mediocre content. I have seen such content on the platforms like LinkedIn, Medium, and even company blog posts.
 
Earlier, even I was into mediocrity. The reason was that I was in a hurry to publish a lot of content. I wanted to succeed as a writer fast.
 
Then, one day, I got feedback from a senior writer friend who hates using LinkedIn. Reason? The ever-increasing crap in the platform's feed.
 
He got angry reading my mediocre LinkedIn post.
 
His eyes were showing disgust-TUM BHI?
Thank god, he didn't slap me.
 
Instead, without losing his composure he (subtly) said, 'Every piece of mediocre content equals a lost opportunity.'
That sentence was enough to teach me a lesson.
 
Without losing time any further, I went on revamping all my published articles. It took me three days but I was happy that I worked to improve my mistake. I came out from the 'Mediocre Content Trap,' a state of mind where a writer publishes content for the sake of publishing.
 
This trap has become more seductive with the rise of generative AI chatbots. 
You might be making the same blunder on LinkedIn if you are hungry for attention.

Avoid mediocrity at any cost.
 
Here's why it has become crucial to take utmost care in crafting great content:
 
There are thousands of people publishing content on the Internet. Data shows that over 2 million posts, articles, and videos are published on LinkedIn daily.
 
 
To compete for attention, publishing posts every day is a compelling reason.
 
But volume does not produce results. There is no point in publishing content that no one would like to finish reading. But that's how most content creators operate online. They choose the easy road. They choose mediocrity.

Mediocrity = Noise = Increased liability

Mediocre content:
- Do not get shared
- Do not get the desired ROI
- Do not rank high on Google
 
Unfortunately, the Mediocre Content trap is easy to fall prey to. Especially for someone who's in a hurry, wants quick fixes, or is hungry to gain followers fast. 

Such content could lead to a loss of readership and lost sales.
 
Results come from helpful content (like EBM) that appeals to the target audience. Mediocrity diminishes that appeal. 

Take utmost care to avoid the Mediocre Content Trap.
 
Use stringent systems to avoid this trap at any cost. Publish quality content. That's when you will create content that becomes a perpetual asset.
