A dream career is the one that supports your dream lifestyle, not the other way around.

I’ll never forget a moment from 2018.

I was in the car with a close friend, stuck in traffic after work, trying to head out for a weekend getaway.

As we sat there, the thought hit me:

"𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴—𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬, 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴.

"𝘐'𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺."

My friend thought I was crazy.

Because I'm ambitious and I want to have a career that challenges me, allows me to grow and pays well.

“𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦??" asked my friend.

I didn't know but I was determined to figure it out.

That moment sparked a realization:

I didn’t just want a successful career.

I wanted a career that would support the lifestyle I dreamed of—

freedom, travel, balance, and living life on my terms.

I went on to transition to a remote career in recruitment sales, which gave me the flexibility I wanted.

As well as allowed me to create impact I craved and make 6 figures.

All before COVID made it more common.

Fast forward to today - I spend every winter abroad.

This year I was in Colombia, living that dream.

Last year I was in Argentina. The year before, Mexico.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

✨ A dream career isn’t just about money or status—it’s about freedom and fulfillment

✨ You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being

✨ Work-life balance is possible when you intentionally design it for yourself

We’re often taught one version of success—climbing the ladder in big-name companies.

But what we’re not taught is to define our own version of success—because that’s what will truly make you happy.

This is where my clients and I always start, before job searching. The breakthroughs here are astonishing.

So, I ask you:

Is your career supporting the lifestyle you want?

Early in my career, my VP told me to cut out "just" and "wanted" from my emails.

So, switch:

“I just wanted to follow up…” -> ”I’m following up”
“I just wanted to reach out…” -> “I’m reaching out”

I was... furious.

So much was going on through my head.

"This is too straight to the point"
"I'm a top performer, I think my emails work as is"
"I want to come across softer and more approachable"

But then the initial emotions passed.

And I realized my VP was on to something.

Both "just" and "wanted" are simply filler words.

Filler words don't actually add value.

And you can still be approachable in your communication, without the filler words.

3 ways to overcome job interview nervousness ⬇️

Interviews are weird.

And you'll probably only do so many in your career.

So, of course you get nervous. It's normal.

In fact, even world's best musicians and speakers admit that they get nervous before going on stage. 

The goal is not to NOT feel nervous.

But to get used to performing (or doing the interview) 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 you’re nervous.

Here is how you're going to do it:

1️⃣ Record yourself practicing on camera

The second the camera is on we tend to get nervous and that's exactly what you want.

2️⃣ Practice out loud in public

This can look like practicing your interview answers out loud while walking home from a subway station.

Because it's such an unusual circumstance and someone might hear you, your heart rate goes up.

So, a perfect way to practice while you're nervous.

3️⃣ Practice with people in your life

When your sibling or spouse sit in front of you and ask “Tell me about yourself”....

I guarantee you will immediately feel the discomfort. 

The key is to practice when you're nervous.

It’s embarrassing to struggle with landing a job.

Introducing yourself in a job interview?

Break it down into 3 key points.

For example:

"This week I focused on: project A, proposal B, client C"

This creates a pattern making it is easier to follow you.
You won't ramble because you have a concrete plan.
You will come across as someone who knows their stuff.

It's so simple, yet so effective.

It's so easy to see what you haven't achieved yet.

• Parenthood
• Home ownership
• ...the list goes on

We're all so focused on what's ahead and what we "should' be aiming for next (I'm no exception).

Goals are great - they keep us moving forward.

But unless we also put as much effort into recognizing what we have already and how far we've come...

We'll simply always be chasing.

And because you're chasing and aren't there yet, you'll feel unhappy and unaccomplished most of the time.

So this is your reminder that you already have so much.

You have achieved so much.

Read that again.

You're doing great.

3 steps to land interviews for "I can't believe it" roles

My client just got an interview at her dream company.

For a role that’s beyond what she ever thought possible:

✔️ Most senior role she’s ever had

Here’s exactly how she did it:

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲  

She spent weeks working on her mindset.  

Because the best job search strategy isn’t enough if you secretly believe you’re not ready for that next-level role.

So, she worked on reframing unhelpful thoughts by finding real evidence to prove them wrong.
