When I was 9, my class was putting on a talent show. All the kids were able to showcase their talents, whether it was singing, dancing, juggling, or reciting poetry. I, too, got to showcase what turned out to be my biggest talent - running the whole thing so that it would be a success. (I have to add that I was also pretty good at reciting poetry but it's a bit more challenging to build a career around that). Over the years, I've tried many different varieties of getting things to be a success. I worked in corporations, startups, and non-profits. I've built strategies and tactics, improved existing products and processes, and created new ones, conducted extensive research (including a spell as an actual researcher) and have constantly worked to find out what people want. But what I truly excel at is building relationships and ensuring that the people around me have the best opportunity to thrive (helps with getting things done, too). This was true when I was 9, running a talent show, and it is true in my role as a product manager today.
