This research paper assesses the impact of marketplaces within e-commerce through an analysis of the business model and environment of Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company. This research covers the history and structure of e-commerce to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current digital commerce landscape since the democratisation of the internet. 

Today, marketplaces are attracting the largest audiences and positively driving the growth of e-commerce. French brands are persevering with a digital distribution strategy focused solely on their own sites. We can then ask ourselves if French brands should introduce Amazon's strong growth into their distribution strategies, to accelerate their digital growth and remain competitive with their competitors. Indeed, the digitalisation of commerce is gradually forcing brands to display their products in the Marketplace.

Based on an analysis of the ecosystem and structure of e-commerce, marketplaces and more particularly Amazon, this thesis studies, through a qualitative survey, the current opportunities and threats that Amazon represents for French brands.
