How to win the day..

(even when you wake up feeling like garbage)

Let’s get one thing straight:

I don’t care how optimized your morning routine is.

Sunlight.
Journaling.
Breathwork.
Cold plunge.
The whole monk cosplay.

There will be days you wake up flat.

No spark.
No urgency.
No “let’s go.”

And if you don’t handle that moment correctly, one bad feeling quietly turns into a lost day.

Here’s the framework I use to stop the spiral...fast.

1. Give Yourself a Temporary Hall Pass

Most people think being hard on themselves is a virtue.

It’s not.
It’s usually just laziness disguised as discipline.

Yes. High standards matter.
But misapplied self-criticism kills momentum.

Some days require pressure.
Other days require permission.

Permission to be human.
Permission to be off.
Permission to not perform at your peak.

You’re not lowering the bar forever.
You’re just not beating yourself with it today.

Grace shortens recovery time.
Shame extends it.

2. Create a “Now” Reset (Not a Tomorrow Reset)

Humans love symbolic fresh starts.

Mondays.
First of the month.
New year. New notebook. New plan.

The problem?

We waste massive amounts of time waiting to deserve a restart.

Here’s the truth:

You can reset in the middle of a mistake.

A bad morning doesn’t disqualify the afternoon.
A blown habit doesn’t cancel the day.

You don’t need a new sunrise.
You need a new decision.

Right now counts.
Even if five minutes ago didn’t.

3. Script the Fight Scene

When motivation is gone, clarity beats willpower.

So grab a pen and write (no more than 5 minutes):

- What actually went wrong
- What you’re feeling (don’t censor it)
- The smallest next action that would shift momentum
- The resistance you expect when you start
- Why this still matters (even today)
- What you’ll do when the “meh” shows up again

This works because you’re no longer avoiding the fight.

You’re rehearsing it.

And once you’ve mentally faced the dragon, picking up the sword feels… manageable.

Bad days are inevitable.
Lost days are optional.

Win the moment.
Momentum will follow.

7 stupidly simple truths I never want to forget:

(especially the last one)

1. You are only free in this life to the extent you are able to control your emotions.

If you cannot master your emotions, you will forever be at their mercy.

2. Your ability to show up consistenty matters far more than your ability to show up with intensity.

With that said...

Many of life's obstacles can be overcome if you attack them with enough gusto.

Showing up Consistently and with Intensity all but guarantees success.

3. You only get one chance to make a killer first impression, so best make it a damn good one.

Simple trick:

Always walk into rooms with your head-up and smiling.

4. You don't lack time...

You lack focus.

5. The ability to force yourself to do hard things in the absence of motivation is what separates professionals from amateurs.

Amateurs wait until they feel ready.

Professionals just get up and go to work.

6. Winning the money game doesn't solve all your problems, but it does solve all your money problems...

And many of life's problems are simply money problems.

Learn to play the money game.

7. You can't win if you don't start.

You can't lose if you don't quit.

And as such, it can be improved.

Here’s a simple tactical approach to becoming a better thinker:

Beware of what you:

• Consume
• Assume
• Believe

1. Consume with Intention

Over 2,000 years ago, Marcus Aurelius begged himself to:

“Stand guard at the gate of your mind.”

He did this because he understood that in the same way that the food we consume impacts the quality of our energy…

So too does the information we consume impact the quality of our thoughts.

If you put junk in, you will get junk out.

2. Question Your Assumptions

Here’s the problem:

The internet is a dangerous place that rewards extreme perspectives with more and more attention, which encourages even more extreme perspectives…

And around and around we go.

There is no place on the internet for nuanced thinking.

Even though we may be aware this is happening, we individually still fall prey to one of the most pervasive cognitive biases:

The Availability Bias

The tendency to evaluate information based on how readily available it is.

So the more we hear or see a thing, the more we overestimate its importance and veracity.

Which leads to a rigid and brittle form of thinking that easily breaks down.

To improve your skill as a thinker, you must fight to remain fluid and nimble in your thoughts.

Which you can do by:

3. Dispute Your Beliefs

Orson Scott Card said:

"We question all of our beliefs except for the ones we really believe, and those we never think to question.”

Life is not as black and white as we’d like to believe.

The battle between good and evil, right and wrong… it occurs along a spectrum of gray.

After-all, nobody thinks they’re the villain in the story of their life.

This means that often, there is not one correct answer to a question…

But rather, an “it depends” answer.

An answer that changes depending on the perspective you assume…

And because there are currently 7.8 billion perspectives on this planet... that means there are a whole lot of answers besides just your one.

To improve your skill as a thinker, you must develop strong opinions, loosely held.

Listen…

If you can’t look at your own strongly held beliefs and produce an “it depends” argument refuting it… then it means you are dogmatically adhering to a shallowly/poorly formed opinion.

It should scare you to not know why you believe what you believe.

Because if you didn't put it there, that means somebody else did.

To become a better thinker, you must stop thinking the things the world tells you to think…

And instead, start thinking your own thoughts.

↳ Structure it for clarity and maximum emotional impact.

And that, right there, is a massive opportunity just being left on the table.

Your origin story isn’t about the past.
It’s about giving people a reason to trust you right now.

So here are 7 ways to tell a killer story:

1. The Cardinal Rule of Storytelling

You have to make me care.

The way we make an audience care is by adding STAKES.

2. Every story simply boils down to 3 parts: a Beginning, a Middle, and an End.

Understanding what each part needs to accomplish is the secret to creating compelling narratives out of practically anything.

3. The Beginning of a Story only has ONE objective:

Get your Audience's Attention

We do this by using Hooks to plan seeds of intrigue.

4. The Middle of your Story only has ONE objective:

Keep your Audience's Attention

We do this by Opening and Closing Cognitive Loops.

5. The End of your Story only has ONE objective:

Direct your Audience's Attention

If you don't explicitely tell your audience what you want them to take away from your story, then they will fill in the blanks for themselves...

And quite often, they'll fill in the wrong blanks.

In marketing, we call this the Call to Action.

In storytelling, I call this the Tie Down.

6. Most stories suck because they are just a chronological list of events.

As a good rule of thumb:

Don't just tell me what happened... tell me why it mattered.

7. Great stories are about transformation.

That doesn't mean it has to be a massive transformation...

But by the end of your story, something HAS to have changed.
