Last year I worked with a senior leader navigating a restructuring.

Most of us lose attention after point #4.
Here’s why.

Your brain doesn’t remember five things.
It remembers three.

The Rule of Three.

The structure behind:
 • Great speeches
 • Clear strategy
 • Confident decision-making

And the problem is usually this:

We try to say too much.

There’s a reason great communicators use three.

Three is complete.
Three is structured.
Three is memorable.

Beginning. Middle. End.
Past. Present. Future.
Problem. Insight. Action.

Ask yourself:
“If you had to reduce your message to three points, what would stay?”

That’s when real clarity appears.

Because:

⤷ Three fits our working memory
⤷ Constraint forces focus

If you can’t explain it in three,
you probably don’t fully understand it yet.

Simplicity is not small thinking.

Most people don’t hate their job.
That’s the uncomfortable truth.

They’re good at it.

Well paid.
Trusted.
They fit.

And that’s exactly why they stay.
But fitting in is not the same as being aligned.

You can fit in and still feel restless.

You can win and still feel flat.

You can succeed and still feel slightly disconnected from your own ambition.

This isn’t burnout.
It’s misalignment.

The role you once grew into is not the role you are meant to grow from now.

And fitting in is dangerous because it creates no friction.
No tension.
No reason to question.

Until one day you realise you optimised for stability instead of fulfilment.

The uncomfortable truth about success.

I often think it is advice we should revisit at every stage of our career - not just at the beginning.

Whether you are 21, 31, 41, or 51, the fundamentals do not change.

Everyone’s looking for a shortcut.
The shortcut is showing up when nobody’s watching.
 
There’s no hack. 
No secret. 
No one tactic that changes everything.
 
The people who win just do the boring stuff longer than everyone else.
 
3 key mindset shifts help you with this…
 
1/ Believe in yourself before anyone else does:
 
 ↳ Stop waiting for validation to start. Post the content. Send the pitch. Launch the thing. 
 Confidence comes after action, not before.
 
2/ Stay consistent when there’s no reward yet:
 
 ↳ Block time for your most important work every single day. Same time. Non-negotiable. Results lag behind effort by months. Keep going anyway.
 
3/ Stop waiting for someone to hand you the opportunity:

Peace is not found.
It is protected.


Most of us do not struggle because we lack discipline.

We struggle because our boundaries are loose.

I used to think boundaries were dramatic.
Something you only needed when things were clearly “bad”.

But strain rarely starts with chaos.
It starts with tiny leaks.

Saying yes when you mean maybe.
Maybe when you mean no.
And no only after you are already depleted.

Over time, that compounds.

There are 7 types of boundaries.
And if I am honest, from what I have seen, most people struggle with at least three.

1/ Time
“I can stay for 30 minutes.”
Not letting the evening quietly dissolve into obligation.

2/ Mental
“I respect your view. I do not agree.”
Without feeling the need to justify your stance for 20 minutes.

3/ Emotional
Not becoming everyone’s processing unit when your own capacity is low.

4/ Material
Being clear about access, resources, and what you will not give.

5/ Internal
Taking a weekend to yourself without needing to earn it first.

6/ Conversational
Choosing not to engage in topics that drain, derail, or distract.

7/ Physical
Protecting privacy and personal space without apology.

None of these are aggressive.
They are precise.

And here is what I have noticed in myself and in clients:
⮕ The people who look the calmest are not the ones with fewer demands.
⮕ They are the ones with clearer boundaries.

Peace is rarely about changing everyone else.

It is about being precise about what you allow.

9 ways to kill procrastination

Success can look exactly right on paper
and still feel misaligned

You built the career.
Earned the title.
Delivered the results.

And yet something beneath the surface has shifted.

In my experience, a professional crossroads is often misunderstood.

It does not usually begin with crisis.
It begins with awareness.

Over the years, I have seen this pattern repeatedly - first in myself, and then in other senior leaders at pivotal moments in their careers.

A crossroads rarely announces itself dramatically.

It shows up in subtle signals.

For example:
 • Your success no longer energises you in the same way
 • Decisions about your own future feel heavier
 • You are performing well, but thinking more intentionally about what comes next

None of this means something is broken.
But it may mean something is evolving.

The biggest misconception?

That you should only reassess when something is clearly wrong.

In reality, the most effective transitions are made from a position of strength, not urgency.

A crossroads is not a crisis.
It is a strategic moment.

This Is What A Turning Point feels like

Most people do not lack discipline.
They are overstimulated.


For a long time, I told myself:
“I need more willpower.”
“I just need to try harder.”
“I need to stop procrastinating.”

I was wrong.
My brain was not weak.
It was overloaded.

Modern life quietly trains your dopamine system to chase:
• notifications
• quick wins
• novelty
• constant input

Then we sit down to do meaningful work and wonder why it feels harder than it should.


Here is the part most people misunderstand:

Dopamine is not about pleasure.
It is about pursuit.
When your brain gets easy spikes all day, effort-based rewards start to feel flat.

The spike is not the real issue.
The crash is.
And repeated crashes lower your baseline.

Lower baseline = lower drive.

That is why scrolling feels easier than starting.
Not laziness.
Chemistry.

The answer is not extreme discipline.
It is deliberate regulation.

Rebuild your baseline:
• Delay the quick hit
• Move your body before screens
• Create small, earned wins
• Add novelty with intention
• Schedule low-stimulation windows

Nothing dramatic.
Just consistent.

The hardest part isn’t the work.
It’s doubting yourself while doing it.


When things get hard, what is your first instinct?
Push harder?
Question everything?
Quietly wonder if you are cut out for this after all?

I know that spiral.
There are seasons where it feels like nothing is moving.

You are showing up. Doing the work.
And still… it feels heavy.

We all get periods like this.

The mistake is thinking the heaviness means you are failing.

Often it means you are stretching.

I have had moments where I caught myself thinking, “Maybe this is not working.”

Not because I had proof.
But because progress was invisible.

That is when being your own biggest fan matters most.

Not in a cheerleader way.
In a steady, grounded way.

Here is what helps me when I hit those phases:

1/ Acknowledge the season
Instead of fighting it, name it.
 “This is a building phase.”
 “This is a patience phase.”
 Not every chapter is a breakthrough chapter.

2/ Track the invisible shifts
 What feels slightly easier than it used to?
 Maybe you recover faster from criticism.
 Maybe you speak up sooner.
 Maybe you quit less quickly.
 That is growth.

3/ Shrink the timeframe
 On hard days, do not evaluate your whole life.
 Just ask: What is the next right step today?

4/ Change the internal dialogue
 Would you tell someone you respect to give up because one quarter was   slow? No. So stop doing it to yourself.

5/ Decide in advance that quitting is not your first option
 You are allowed to pivot.
 You are allowed to redesign.
 But do not walk away just because it feels uncomfortable.

There is a version of you in the future who will be grateful you stayed.

Allow yourself to be proud - especially of the progress no one else can see.

The discipline.
The restraint.
The courage to keep going quietly.

Resilience is not dramatic.

It is built in ordinary, unglamorous moments where you choose not to give up.
And sometimes, that choice is the real win.

Gratitude will not fix the world and
it will not remove uncertainty.

Neither will it prevent loss.
And it will not make complexity disappear.

So why practise it?

Because without it, your perception narrows.
And narrow perception creates reactive people.

Gratitude is not a soft emotion.
It is a stabilising force.

If you only consume what is alarming, you will start to experience the world as entirely alarming.

That does not make you informed.
It makes you physiologically flooded.

Gratitude widens the lens.
Not to deny what is wrong.

But to prevent your entire nervous system from organising around threat.

What gratitude is not:
🔺 It is not toxic positivity.
🔺 It is not bypassing reality.
🔺 It is not “be thankful it is not worse.”

What it actually is:

1/ Cognitive balance
Your brain is wired to scan for danger.
That bias was useful for survival.
But unchecked, it distorts proportion.

Gratitude corrects the distortion by deliberately registering what is stable, supportive, or functioning.

2/ Nervous system regulation
When you consciously acknowledge safety, connection, or sufficiency, your stress response softens.

Clearer thinking follows, so do better decisions.

3/ Psychological resilience
If everything feels fragile, you will move through life defensively.
If you can see both what is fragile and what is solid, you move with steadiness.

That steadiness benefits everyone around you.

4/ Relational strength
People who regularly express appreciation build trust.
Teams collaborate better.
Partnerships last longer.
Conversations become less combative.

Gratitude is not about pretending things are good.
It is about recognising that not everything is bad.

Both can coexist.

A practical reset,
At the end of today, ask yourself:
⤷ What is still working?
⤷ Who showed up?
⤷ What did I handle better than I would have a year ago?

Not to feel virtuous.
To stay grounded.

Because when you are grounded, you are not easily shaken.

You remain steady - even when things are not.

You can optimise your calendar.
You can optimise your workflow.
But if you neglect connection, something will always feel off.

Last Friday, I started this short series on brain chemistry with D for Dopamine - the driver of pursuit and motivation.

Today is O for Oxytocin.

If dopamine gets you moving,
oxytocin keeps you steady.

It is the chemical linked to trust, bonding, and emotional safety.

It is released through eye contact, physical touch, shared laughter, honest conversation.
In other words - through being human.

And yet, in a performance-driven, always-on world, connection is often treated as optional.

A reward.
A luxury.
Something to fit in after the “real work” is done.


Here is the irony:
Without oxytocin, the work rarely feels meaningful anyway.


In The DOSE Effect, TJ Power explains why so many capable, high-achieving people still feel disconnected or flat.

Not because they lack people.
But because their nervous system lacks safety.

Oxytocin shapes:
↳ how much we trust
↳ how open we are
↳ how supported we feel
↳ how resilient we become under pressure


It is not soft.
It is biological.


What depletes it?
➠ chronic stress
➠ constant digital interaction without depth
➠ surface-level communication
➠ emotional self-protection


What builds it?
⤷ genuine listening
⤷ appropriate physical touch
⤷ expressing appreciation
⤷ small moments of vulnerability
⤷ time in real conversation without distraction


I used to believe connection had to be earned.
Rest too.


Now I see both for what they are - regulation.
A warm hug is not indulgent.

It is chemistry.


A thoughtful message is not trivial.
It is fuel.

When you understand the mechanism, prioritising connection stops feeling sentimental.

It becomes strategic.

Simple sentence.
Hard in practice.



I used to catch myself worrying so much about the future that I almost forgot to enjoy what was happening now.

Some people live mostly in the past.
Replaying conversations.
Rewriting decisions.
Carrying things that are already over.

Others live in the future.
“What if…?”
“Someday when…”
“I will relax once…”

And without realising it, we miss the only place life actually happens.
The present.

Here is what helps:

1/ If you are stuck in the past, ask:
 → What is the lesson here?
 → Have I extracted it yet?
 If yes - you are done. You can put it down.

2/ If you are anxious about the future, ask:
 → Is there something I can prepare today?
 If yes - do that one thing.
 If no - you are rehearsing a problem that does not exist.

3/ Living in the present does not mean ignoring responsibility.
It means engaging fully with what is in front of you.

The conversation.
The task.
The person across the table.
The quiet moment you usually rush through.

You do not need to solve your whole life today.

Just live this hour properly.
That is usually enough.

For a long time, we didn’t know if this day would ever come.


Today is my daughter’s birthday, and every year it makes me think about something most people rarely talk about.

Starting a family is not always straightforward.

For a long time, nothing happened.
No explanation.
No clear answer.
Just waiting.
Hoping.
Wondering.

At the time it felt isolating.

But over the years I’ve realised something.
It’s incredibly common.

Far more common than most people realise.
Yet almost nobody talks about it openly.

Modern life moves fast.
Careers.
Deadlines.
Constant pressure.
Always switched on.

We often treat our bodies like another system we can optimise.

Work harder.
Push through.
Control the outcome.
But life does not always work like that.

Our bodies certainly don’t.
Some things refuse to follow a schedule.

That period taught me two things I probably wouldn’t have learned otherwise:
➠ Patience & gratitude.

Patience for the things that cannot be forced.

And gratitude for the moments that eventually arrive.

It also changed how I see other people.

Because you never really know what someone else might be carrying.

The waiting.
The disappointments.

So today, while celebrating my daughter’s birthday…

I’m also thinking about that chapter of our lives.

And about the many people who might still be in the middle of theirs.

Much longer than we expect.

Some of the healthiest exercise you can do
has nothing to do with the gym.


It is walking. 🚶‍♂️‍➡️ 

Walking away from arguments that only create anger.

Walking away from conversations that go around in circles.

Walking away from thoughts that quietly steal your peace.

We often underestimate how much energy we lose by engaging with everything.

Every opinion.
Every criticism.
Every irritation that crosses our path.

The mind treats each one like a small problem to solve.

Your attention locks onto it.
Your emotions react.

And long after the moment has passed, your mind is still replaying it.

This is why a simple discipline becomes so powerful:

Learning what not to engage with.

❌ Not every disagreement needs your voice.
❌ Not every provocation deserves your reaction.
❌ Not every thought deserves your belief.


Over time, this creates something rare.
✅ A calmer mind.
✅ Clearer judgement.
✅ More energy for what actually matters.


Because the quality of your life is shaped LESS by what happens to you,
and MORE by what you choose to engage with.

Sometimes the most powerful step forward
is simply a step away.

Most people delay fulfilment.
Then they wonder where life went.


Promotion.
Exit.
Big milestone.

But that’s rarely how it works.

Fulfilment doesn’t suddenly appear when everything finally “works out”.

It grows while you’re still figuring things out.

It grows when you make decisions that feel right for the person you’re becoming.

Even if they make less sense on paper.

I’ve met plenty of people who hit the milestone they thought would make them happy.

➜ The bigger title
➜ The higher salary
➜ The impressive company

And they still feel empty.

Because fulfilment isn’t built on outcomes.
It’s built on alignment.

Alignment between:
• what you do
• what you value
• who you’re becoming

That alignment happens long before any milestone.

And when it’s missing, no milestone will fix it.

Most people chase success.
Few people build alignment.

The latter tend to get both.

Fulfilment does not necessarily mean quitting your job or reinventing yourself.

Sometimes it is much simpler.
Sometimes it is just showing up as you truly are.

Most people think they are good at multitasking.
They are not and here is why…



They are carrying mental residue from the last thing they did.

I know because I used to pride myself on being a multitasker.

Answer emails while on calls.
Jump between strategy and Slack.
Run three things at once.

It felt productive.
Until I learned what was actually happening.

Research shows switching tasks can reduce productivity by up to 40%.

And when you move from one task to another, your brain needs 20 minutes to fully regain focus.

Psychologists call this the Attention Residue Effect.

When you switch from Task A to Task B,
part of your brain stays stuck on Task A.

Even if you think you’ve moved on.

Your attention is split.
Your thinking slows down.
Your decisions get worse.

And the more often you switch tasks, the more residue builds up.

This is why modern work often feels like this:
 • You jump between emails and strategy
 • Between meetings and real thinking
 • Between Slack messages and deep work

Your brain never fully resets.
So performance quietly drops.

Research shows that when attention residue is present:
 ⤷ Focus declines
 ⤷ Errors increase
 ⤷ Decision quality falls

Not because people are less capable.
But because their brain is still processing the previous task.

That’s why high performers protect blocks of focused time.

They do fewer things at once.
But they finish them properly.

Because clarity doesn’t come from doing more.

It comes from finishing what you started before switching.

Multitasking isn’t productivity.
It’s just organised distraction.
