“The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function.” - Albert Bartlett. Every Indian kid grows up wanting to be a doctor, an engineer or a chartered accountant. Those that can dream bigger, end up going to the USA/UK for an MBA or MS. You grow up believing linearity is a big thing. After the 'been-there-done-that' part of my linear life (CA from India, MBA from a top US B-School, working for global banks), I had an epiphany! What if linearity is overrated? Thanks to Emilie Wapnick’s TED talk, I now know what to call myself - a "multipotentialite". Over the last 20 years, I’ve worked in banking, led change programs, founded & grew a startup, mentored others, built product and sales channels, founded a global volunteering platform, drove public-policy and advocacy efforts, wrote columns & OpEds, spoke at universities and conferences worldwide, and helped organisations enter new markets. Each of these has helped with building expertise in new industries, deepening people relationships, and worked a diverse set of muscles... from a Connections & Credibility perspective. A boss of mine told me once, “Anuraag when you hire, check if the candidate has 10 years of experience, or 1 year of experience 10 times.” Golden words! It’s been exciting pivoting from the structure of corporates, to the ambiguity of entrepreneurship, to navigating the bureaucracy of governments. I’m especially proud of: - Founding & scaling a startup to fill information-gaps in South Asia’s education sector. - Building the world’s largest crowdsourced heritage-recovery platform. - Bringing the ‘World Toilet Summit’ to India in partnership with WTO, multilateral agencies, and the Govt. of India. - Influencing Public Policy & Regulators through interventions and advocacy programs. - Enabling enterprises to scale into new APAC markets and chase exponential growth. When I’m not doing any of the above, I can be found at standup comedy shows, cooking up the greatest beetroot hummus, learning dance from my daughter (badly) and sketching from my son (even worse). I have been featured in BBC, Washington Post, The Diplomat, Economic Times, Sunday Guardian, Times of India, Doordarshan, Man’s World, DailyO, and SPAN. * * * Talk to me about: • Entrepreneurship • New Markets & Exponential Growth • Passionate & Ambitious Activism • Deep, Meaningful Networking • Public Policy & Government Affairs A coffee never hurt anybody :-).
