Academic Case Competitor, Human Resources Team

JDC West is the most prestigious undergraduate business competition in Western Canada, hosting 1,300 attendees and uniting over 650 delegates from twelve premier post-secondary institutions annually.

I was honored with the opportunity to represent the Beedie School of Business as a competitor on the Entrepreneurship team at JDC West 2023, hosted by the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan.

We were able to bring home 1st place in the Entrepreneurship discipline after 9 years in SFU history, contributing to SFU winning the coveted School of the Year and Academic School of the Year trophy.

Key Learning:
'Fail early, fail often, fail forward' and the power of systems.

Academic Case Competitor, Entrepreneurship Team COO

Axis Consulting

During my first year at university, I took on an executive role as a Director of Events at Axis Consulting, a student-led pro-bono consulting service at Simon Fraser University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developed team culture by organizing 22 creative weekly Axis Challenges, 12 virtual and in-person socials, including an end-of-semester award night titled “Dundies” for a 30-member cohort to recognize the hard work of consulting teams and the executive team (ET)
• Collaborated with other portfolio directors on the ET to ensure seamless logistics of Axis workshops, ranging from skill-building sessions to consulting panels

Beyond my role, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to shadow the consulting teams and actively contribute to client projects. Some key highlights were:
• Creating survey forms for volunteer research and gathering insights from focused group discussions
• Participating in client meetings during both terms

ALL-in Eduspace

My first exposure to the professional world straight out of high school was as a Market and Product research Analyst intern at ALL-in Eduspace, an independent university consultant that offers mentoring and learning programs for students to help them prepare for university.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support the organization's expansion into the Bandung market by conducting market due diligence on client preferences through surveys and direct outreach
• Performed weekly industry research on the education industry and university admission trends, tips, and the latest news (changes in policy/regulations, requirements, etc.) to create content for social media posts, blogs, and website marketing
• Proactively coordinated progress, ensured smooth handover of tasks and briefed fellow interns

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
• Due to my excellent work ethic, I was tasked to take on some responsibilities beyond my role that involved analyzing website leads on a bi-weekly basis and creating monthly trend reports to support the social media team
• Presented for their workshops on university application preparation and information sessions as a guest speaker, totaling over 20 presentations

Key Learning:
What they think they need is not necessarily the same as what they actually need.
