In generative AI, decision-makers face a pivotal decision: adopting a Tool-Based approach versus a Problem-Focused strategy. In a tool-based strategy, one will start drafting a problem considering the existing tools and delving into their capabilities. This approach is exciting at first because it allows for quick testing and playing around with new ideas. 

Conversely, the problem-focused approach means starting with a specific business issue or customer need and then finding AI tools that can help with that problem. This method might seem slower and needs more patience, but it tends to work better in the long run because it's built around real business needs and customer experiences.

Most of the euphoria exists in Tool-based strategy. There is a common mistake where companies think they are being problem-focused, but they are just focusing on tools. This leads to teams getting too wrapped up in a particular tool, trying to make it work for all kinds of problems, which isn't always the best approach.

Decision-makers should be wary of the dazzle of new AI tools. When you learn about a new AI tool, don't get carried away by the hype. Ask how it can fit into the whole process of serving your customers, from start to finish. Talk about architecture, data integrations, business process adoption, localization, robustness, safety, model backward compatibility, and cost. Without this full picture, any new tool is just like a cool science project that may not help your business.

It is your call to decide if you are actually solving a problem or just "showing" you are solving a problem.
