After spending a couple years getting my teeth kicked in, I made the transition to HubSpot.

On a day to day basis I work with marketing & sales leaders that are typically dealing with:

-bouncing around way too many tools that don't like each other 
-spending waaaay too much time on admin work
-guesstimating if their efforts prove ROI or not
-long sales cycles and decreased win rates

The result? Sad salespeople, sad marketers, and sad customers.

Truthfully I didn't know "tech or software sales" was a thing...

I thought people bought all software products without salesmen needed (ie: Netflix, Apple Music, Prime, etc ).

One day a friend mentioned tech sales and I was hooked...

So you're telling me I don't have to develop the product I just have to sell it?

I'm in.

I was fortunate enough to land a closing role and that's where my entry to tech sales began.

I learned: 
-prospecting (cold calling, emailing, door knocking)
-discovery
-demoing
-closing
etc.

My welcome into the corporate world, 
my welcome into the real world.

They say "look good, feel good, feel good, play good"...or something like that.

Thought I was selling men's suits for $$$ but I quickly learned it was much more than that. 

It wasn't about the suit, it was about brining out the confidence in that young boy or man in the suit.

Being a part of someone's journey as they dressed for their big interview, big wedding day or just another day was more fulfilling than I thought it would be.

"Do you need help finding anything?" That's typically how I started every interaction with customers that would walk in.

Then one day a customer punched me in the face...

Okay not quite, but it pretty much felt like it. 

So I changed my approach. 

And eventually the commissions started to roll in.

Found my way on that sales floor and the rest is history.

You know how you can walk into a hotel ballroom and magically the tables, chairs and stages are set?

That was part of my role...the other half was dining the guests as they showed up whether it be for business conferences, birthday parties and especially weddings. 

More importantly, if you need a guy to carry 12 plates on a tray, just call me.

Not sure when I'll ever use this skill again but glad I learned it.

Before working here I was a crew member at Culver's since I was 14. 

Turned 16 then swapped out the classic butter burgers for some eggs, hashbrowns and bacon.

Why the change? I learned what tips were...

Thus the beginning of my pursuit in sales...

Because if I served customers better, I could be rewarded more.

It's funny how things work out!

For some, college is exhilarating, for other's it's terrifying. 

On one hand, many firsts to experience, on the other, lingering lasts.

That's where I stepped in, call me a big brother.

I was responsible for welcoming 30 freshman every year to college life. 

That included anything from guiding them around campus to being a friend they could talk to.

The result was lasting relationships and ofcourse increased student retention rates.

Punk 18 year old kid,
with a black duffle bag filled with the finest knives, skewers, scoops, in the city...

You name it, I pretty much had it in that bag. Knocking door to door on the hottest of summer days getting chewed up and spit out like nobody’s business. 

But you know what?

I built a little bit of this thing called character and a whole lot more of that other thing called grit.

This was my swift welcome to the sales world, thankful for the times spent with Cutco.

I'll never forget that summer before the rest of my adult life kicked in....
