MIT ENTERPRISE FORUM OF PAKISTAN

MITEFP’s mission is to improve the economic well being of the people of Pakistan through development of an Entrepreneurship Promotion Program for Pakistan. This is in line with the MITEF global mission i.e. the promotion of formation and growth of innovative and technologically-oriented companies through specialized executive education programs. Through these programs, the Forum provides networking, leadership opportunities, and life-long connections to MIT while showcasing MIT's role in entrepreneurship in communities around the world. 
MITEFP in partnership with OPEN (Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs) and MIT Alumni of Pakistan and other Pakistani well wishers would work towards the development of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Pakistan (EEP). Towards this end work would be undertaken in four directions namely: 1. Ensuring Availability of a Large Pool of Entrepreneurs. 2.  Ensuring Availability of a Large Pool of Investors in Individual capacity or Working in Groups and Organizations 3. Promotion of Exist Mechanisms and 4. Creation of an Enabling Environment for Entrepreneurship to Flourish.

NUST Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) in its ongoing quest to promote Innovation & Entrepreneurship is launching a Paradigm Changing Student Level Business Plan Competition, entitled DISCOVER – Prosperity through Entrepreneurship. The mission of DISCOVER is: “to define a path towards creating a self-sustaining eco-system for higher education and wealth generation”. his program has been endorsed by His Excellency Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister of Pakistan.Key Features are
•To Align Research and Development Activities at Universities with Market Needs
•To Commercialize Technology that is developed at Universities 
•To provide ‘hands-on’ training to students towards Technology and Business Idea Commercialization 
•To Create Awareness about Importance of Entrepreneurship and Wealth Generation among Students, Faculty and Researchers. DISCOVER, the NUST Business Plan Competition is supported by private businesses, public sector organizations, universities, media groups and non-profit organizations. DISCOVER as such, will be spread over 5 months from February 2011 to June 2011. This hi-profile Paradigm Changing Student Level Business Plan Competition will work towards developing entrepreneurial skills of participating students. Thus, DISCOVER provides that ultimate platform through which thousands of students from over 30 universities of the country including NUST, and all its constituent schools and colleges are going to compete. Such an intensely engaging competition is destined to transform the brilliant ideas of students into practical business plans with a high focus on developing products/services for establishing businesses. Student teams will be multi-disciplinary (Business, Engineering, ICT, Sciences, Arts, Medical, etc.) in composition. Participating teams will also have vantage access to over 100 experienced mentors, coaches and trainers who would themselves be successful entrepreneurs or would be from the corporate and industrial world.

IBA-Invent – The Entrepreneurial Challenge 2011

The IBA – Centre for Entrepreneurial Development has been set up with the purpose to promote entrepreneurship in Pakistan. Invent – The Entrepreneurial Challenge is one big step in this direction. The Invent experience has been extremely encouraging for us, after working over the past 4 months, with close to 30 sponsors and supporting Industrial concerns/associations, over hundred mentors/graders and the support provided by the 26 participating universities, who contributed with close to 1500 students with unbelievable ideas and talent shown in the finale and throughout the duration of Invent, we feel more confident for the future of our country and the youth of Pakistan.

With over 20+ years of experience, Muhammad Asghar Azmi is currently working as a Manager - Strategic Planning Cell at IBA Karachi. Prior he was enagaged as a Project Consultant - Business Development Support at Center for Entrepreneurial Development, IBA Karachi. Assisting the department, proactively working to facilitate business- industry-academia-government linkages to promote innovation and building the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Pakistan exclusively and in the world collectively. His experience includes working for MIT Enterprise Forum and Cambridge Advisors Network as Project Manager directly oversee the projects to  promote entrepreneurship and establish the entrepreneurial eco-system in Pakistan and has worked on a wide range of projects for government and academia to promote Entrepreneurship. Asghar Azmi has also the honor to work closely with the topmost senior faculty of Pakistan leading universities of Pakistan. He is a part of a team that has assisted in establishment of Business Acceleration Programs for national and international bodies, including IBA INVENT business plan competition program and NUST Discover: PM’s Entrepreneurial Challenge. He has also supported in successful launching of various programs, including Sind Agri-business competition, Wadhwani Foundation e-Cells program, Certificate in Entrepreneurship and more.
Asghar has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Preston University and carry experience working with renowned organizations of Pakistan includes, DAWN Group of Newspapers | P.H.P.L, KnowledgeNow, Madinah Institute of Leadership and Entrepreneurship, MAX Strategy (Riphah International University), The School of Writing, Barclays Bank Pakistan and MAZ Advertising.
