A few years back, I made the biggest career risk of my life...
Leaving my 10+ year hotel career with Marriott and Delta Hotels.

I had worked my way up from junior server to restaurant GM, overseeing a $6 million revenue restaurant and 5 other outlets totalling over $10 million.

At times, I managed teams of 80+ people. From 16 years old to 65+

But the lifestyle was brutal. Weekends, 10-12 hour days, holidays spent taking care of others, happy hours that went late...

If you have been in hospitality, you know the scene.

When I jumped to SaaS, I craved change. I was planning to start a family, I wanted holidays at home, needed my weekends back for camping with friends and snowboarding in the winter. 

The pay cut was significant, but the 8-hour days and work-life balance were worth it.

The learning curve, I won't lie, massive! I had to master new technology, software platforms, and all the tools that ran the company behind the scenes.

How did I survive? 

The team and the CEO were incredible. 

The team was always willing to stop and answer questions; I never felt like a bother for interrupting. 

The CEO, he created a 3-month learning plan that set me up for success. He never asked me to jump in on my own; he stuck to the plan, and it truly set me up for success.

In those 3 months, I learned 30+ new tools, took over 80+ customer accounts, and started building my new network of SaaS friends.

The failure I thought would end my career? 

The collapse of our first startup, Arkeo AI.

And honestly, it felt like everything we'd worked for was crumbling 🫠

In 2023, we went all in on building AI agents. We raised capital, David pitched 70+ VCs, and we pushed hard on a venture track.

By October 2024, the money was gone.

So we pivoted to consulting. Did we love it? No. But it kept us moving.

By February, it was just David and me, burned out, mentally beat up, and staring at inboxes we didn't even want to open.

Through 80% of our consulting meetings, we kept hearing the same thing: founders just like us were struggling with email chaos and feeling that same weight.

Then in March, David hacked together a tool to sort his email and send notifications.

It was small, scrappy, but it cleared the fog.

By April, we realized this was our real path. We started building the production version of that tool, and that's how Lynda AI was born.

The collapse of Arkeo felt like the end. But it was actually the reset that gave us our beginning.

As a founder, what mindset shift helped me take back control of my time?

I realized my energy, not my time, drives results.

For a long time, I tried to manage time better.
Plan tighter, fit more in, work smarter.
But it didn’t matter if my energy was gone by noon.

Once I became a mother and a founder, I started seeing patterns.
My best work happens in short, high-energy blocks.
Not long, draining stretches.

I wake up at 4:30 a.m. 
I can get two hours of focused work in before my daughter wakes up and we start her morning routine.
I work in 45-minute blocks, then take five minutes to stretch, lift weights, or have a quick huddle with my co-founder.
Then, back at it.

That rhythm keeps my energy up, and for me, that’s everything.

Now I start my mornings with the work that moves the business forward.
Calls, admin, and messages come later.

Something people don't realize about AI email assistants:

See, I just had a conversation with a founder who runs services for multiple startups.

What’s the first step I recommend to a founder drowning in busywork?

I did this recently with my sales process.
I sat down with my co-founder and mapped it all out.
Every step, every tool, every follow-up.

We looked at where time was being spent and what was actually worth it.
It was clear pretty quickly where my energy was being drained.
