Executive Director

WV Higher Education Policy Commission

The Division of Health Sciences coordinates health sciences programs and policies, particularly those impacting the state’s three academic health centers at Marshall University, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and West Virginia University. The Division oversees the Rural Health Initiative, a statewide program directed at improving the recruitment and retention of healthcare providers to rural areas of the state.

Duties involved program and grants design and administration for the Rural Residency Program, Rural Health Initiative Program, and the Health Sciences Scholarship Program, as well as coordinating and conducting outreach activities directed at increasing the recruitment and retention of healthcare providers to rural and/or underserved areas of West Virginia. 

I handled the creation and publication of the annual Health Sciences Report Card as well as the Health Sciences Service Brochure. I was actively involved with the marketing of the program and our scholarship and developed a marketing platform, which included the creation of a promotional video on the program. 

I managed the finance and budgeting activities of the Division of Health Sciences, including making purchases, processing office expenses, and developing the annual office budget. I served as liaison with the Rural Health Initiative Recruitment and Retention Committee and the Rural Health Advisory Panel, which coordinates state policies and programs related to the rural health workforce.

In this position, I also served as the statewide Advisory Council of Classified Employees (ACCE) Representative for the Higher Education Policy Commission.

The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia

An integral part of the Clay Center's 21st Century Community Learning Center, working in tandem with WV DEP's Youth Environmental Program, in Boone County Schools, I mentored students at Sherman High School after school. I developed a curriculum to be completed with the registered student population for 8 weeks. I utilized my position with the students to educate them on the many programs DEP offers and sponsors in hopes to increase recuitment in Boone County.

21st Century Community Learning Center: Project GOAL Mentor

WV Department of Environmental Protection

As a Public Information Officer in the Youth Environmental Program of the Public Information Office, I developed presentations on recycling, as well as different programs under the Department of Environmental Protection, which I then gave to children and young adults. I developed relationships and contacts in 9 counties: Kanawha, Boone, Logan, Mingo, Lincoln, Wayne, Cabell, Putnam, and Mason. I participated in all YEP activities, including (but not limited to) Youth Environmental Day, a week-long Youth Conservation Camp, and a Youth Envrionmental conference annually as well as participating in several workshops and conferences throughout the year. My goal was to reach the children of West Virginia and instill in them a sense of pride and ownership for their environment.
