Here's my problem with Bitcoin & crypto 🔽 



1️⃣ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲

Anyone can develop a Bitcoin alternative.
And they have. Today's crypto are faster, cheaper, and more efficient than the clunky Bitcoin from 2008.
It's also why we have 17,000 crypto currencies in circulation today, and millions of tokens created daily.

It's not digital gold if the supply is limitless. 


2️⃣  𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄

Like gold, artwork, or vintage cars, crypto's value relies solely on what someone else is willing to pay. Behavioral economists call this the Greater Fool Theory.

Yes, speculation can pay off sometimes, but you can’t reliably predict future prices.

Crypto is speculation—not investing.


3️⃣  𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Give me your financial details, and with stocks & bonds, I can confidently project where you'll stand in 10, 20, or 30 years. These assets have predictable expected returns derived from historical data, valuations, and well-tested financial models.

This lets me clearly tell you:

- How much you need to save
- When you can retire
- How long your retirement funds will last

But Bitcoin?

Nobody knows.

You might retire in 6 months—or maybe never.
You can't reliably plan your future around crypto.


4️⃣  𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲

- Crypto bros chasing quick wealth.
- Conspiracy theorists distrusting traditional finance.
- Overspenders who missed investing early and now need unrealistic returns to save their future.

Their precarious situation blinds them to risks.
Crypto MUST work for them, so they double down, live in denial, and desperately recruit others to crypto so they can be their "exit liquidity."


It is the lazy person’s dream to buy a coin, it blow up, then be rich, with no work, no net benefit to the universe.


That simplicity is appealing.

But it's no foundation for your financial future.

The rich can fake being poor longer than the poor can fake being rich ⬇ 

Don't let social media fool you

1️⃣  You may see your friend bought a new house
But you don't see his $4000 / month mortgage (50% o/w is interest 😓 )

2️⃣  You may see his Porsche in the driveway
But you don't see the $1500 / month car loan payment

3️⃣  You may see his IG stories about his Michelin Star dinner
But you don't see the 27% interest he pays on his credit card

Repeat after me: YOU CAN'T SEE WEALTH.

YOU CAN ONLY SEE MONEY BEING BURNED.

By definition, money spent is money gone.


When someone sports a $20,000 Rolex, the only thing you know for sure is that he's now $20,000 poorer.

That's it.

Everything else is speculation.

Call me crazy, but I think people would behave very differently if their net worth was shown on their forehead 🤔 

Don't go broke trying to look rich.
It's not worth it.

This 1998 study on money & income is going to blow your mind ⬇ 

Professor Solnick Hemenway ran a study. He gave participants two choices:


𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭: You earn $50k per year, others earn $25k

𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮: You earn $100k per year, others earn $200k


Under option 2, you make twice as much.

Yet 56% of people chose option 1 🤯 


Yes, you read that right.

People value 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 over 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.

People don't want to be rich.
They want to be richer than their peers. 
That's why they go broke trying to look rich.

It's also why this is happening ⬇ 

1️⃣  Adjusted for inflation, median household income in the US today is twice as high as in 1950.

2️⃣  Yet in 1957, 35% of Americans said they were "very satisfied" with their income.

3️⃣  By 1995, that number dropped to 29%.

We make 100% more.
But are 17% less satisfied 🤯 


It's all about status. 
Or at least that's what our primitive brain is telling us.

5 reasons why the 4% rule does not work 🔽 



1️⃣  𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀.
The US stock market averaged 11% annually. But the average US investor only made 6%.
This was due to poor behavior (market timing, stockpicking, and asset allocation decision).

With lower returns, the 4% rule stops working.


2️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟰% 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦 & 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮
For the rest of the world, the 4% rule would have failed half of the time ( France, Germany, Spain, Austria).
For Italy, it would have failed in 76% historical periods.


3️⃣ 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟰% 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟲𝟴% 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝘀.
And to achieve a 90% success rate, you'd need to lower it to 2.8%.
That's a 30% paycut.


4️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟰% 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝟯𝟬-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
If you retire early, or live past 95 years old, success rates decrease dramatically. 


5️⃣  𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁
And the older you get, the more gains (and thus taxes) you accumulate.
That lowers your net income every single year.



The 4% rule is the idea that you can withdraw 4% of your portfolio every year and, in theory, you wouldn't run out of money within 30 years.

It's often used by DIY investors in retirement planning.

It's a good rule.

But the calculation is incomplete. And left unchecked, it could lead to financial disaster.
