As a Co-Founder at SweetBlocks, I was the second go-to-mastermind working behind the scenes, orchestrating every quirky detail of our revolutionary protocol that focuses on gamified web3 tokenomics, a concept that is exciting and still nascent in the space.

With a daring entrepreneurial  spirit and a passion for cutting-edge technology, I worked closely with our talented cross-functional team to ensure that our internal processes are delivered with ingenuity.

From inception to delivery, together with my colleague Marco Piccioli, we were setting our sights high and leading the charge to bring our bold vision to life. 

I thrive on the challenge of delivering unparalleled ideas in every aspect of our projects.

With a keen eye for detail and a sharp mind for risk management, I stayed one step ahead of the game, identifying potential issues and devising solutions before they become roadblocks.

Unfortunately, tough market times and our strong conviction in bootstrapping the project did not work out and the project has been deceased, hence I learnt tons on product ideation, design and project management.

Previously Scientist for onsight COVID-19 testing at Cignpost Diagnostics Ltd 🧬 (Heathrow Airport). 

Tasks:

✔️ Responsible for confirming that the human biological specimens delivered to the designated assessment area are accounted for on the specimen manifest. 
✔️ Removal of specimen transport tubes from the kit packaging according to the safety guidelines outlined in the dedicated COVID-19 Specimen Receiving SOP, while using necessary PPE.  
✔️ Identification of samples that may be compromised or do not meet established acceptability criteria according to defined processes and procedures (e.g., not properly labelled, open tubes, empty tubes etc.).  
✔️ Performing viral inactivation steps and entry of required information using LIMS software.
✔️ Specific sample preparation which is compatible with the downstream assay.
✔️ RNA extraction and subsequent qPCR assay.
✔️ Performing analysis of PCR data from samples and correct tracking and recording of the analysis in the appropriate LIMS database of relevant IT system.
✔️ Following of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments.
✔️ Adherence to all site Health & Safety UK policies and procedures. 
✔️ Ensure that all activities performed adhere to all client standards (GxP, Safety and Security).

Scientist

National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark

Student research assistant in the lab of Prof. Egon Bech Hansen, where my work was two fold:

1)  The computational discovery of proteases that can hydrolyse a specific region of potato's total proteasome.

This task has been followed by:

-Using already established bioinformatics tools that are readily available on the web
-Identification of interesting peptides from potato  protein that have potential food applications, and not only.
-In silico investigation of the features that potato protein possesses and how those can be exploited further downstream in the process.

2) The promoter expression level assaying of several Lactococcus strains, with a focus on the expression of a particular outer-membrane protease, named PrtP. 

The focus was on:

-Developing fastidious minimal media for the growth of L. lactis. This objective will support the main goal which is to create a growth substrate that can support the discovery of novel L. lactis mutants that acommodate mutations prefereably on the PrtP protease.
-Potato protein hydrolyzation through the mutants and identification of their specific characteristics ( 
through sequencing, checking the proteolysis pattern  and the optimal protease functioning conditions ).

Research Assistant

International Hellenic University

My thesis' project had as a major aim to identify the potential antimicrobial activity of several newly synthesized chemical compounds that could target the DNA gyrase of Escherichia coli. 

As Molecular Docking was our virtual screening method for identifying the most promising candidate compounds, diverse open-source bioinformatics tools have been used in order to succeed in discovering those that could be further studied not only in silico but also in vitro.

Noteworthy is that fact that the library of our tested ligands had been given for virtual screening through our collaborators at the Aristostle University of Thessaloniki, precisely from the School of Pharmacy of the same institution.

Research Thesis

Weizmann Institute of Science

I won a scholarship from the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Science School Program of
Weizmann’s Institute in Israel, to conduct research at the lab of Dr. Ilana Kolodkin-Gal’s, in the Department of Molecular Genetics. 

My project had to do with the expression level assessment of SKF, an allelopath cannibalism toxin in Bacillus subtilis. To assess SKF’s expression level, B. subtilis during growth was treated with the root exudates of various plants.

Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Science School Fellow

Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen

Being a research intern at the lab of Dr. Kenn Gerdes, director of the Bacterial Stress Response and Persistence Center, I had been involved in a project which pursued to identify the role of a known toxin-antitoxin system that plays its part during the development of bacterial persistence in grown cells. This two-gene module - specifically named relB-relE - has been tested in the model organism Escherichia coli through a diverse set of molecular (micro)biology and biochemistry laboratory techniques.

I have a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from International Hellenic University and attended master level coursework in Biotechnology and Advanced Cell Factory Engineering from DTU - Technical University of Denmark.

I have worked as a Web3 Business Analyst at DappLooker, where I applied my data analysis and strategic skills to provide insights.

I have also been a Co-Founder at SweetBlocks, where I led the development of a revolutionary protocol that focuses on gamified tokenomics, a concept that is exciting and still nascent in the space. 

I have written for Greek news sites and Medium, where I share my knowledge and opinions on various tech (web3) and biotech topics.
