i lied to my mom and i'm not proud of it (ok maybe a little haha)

2 years ago when i quit my job
i told her i’d find another one right away
even went through interviews just to make her happy

but deep down i knew, i was done with these 9-5 and never ever wanted one again 

infact, i actually got an offer
decent money too 

(she's someone who has a famous instagram personal branding agency, works with cool founders)

but when i saw the same old patterns from my previous work experience repeating here

i rejected the offer after working for like 2 days

now, i know how that sounds....
“privileged talk”
“must’ve had a safety net”

but that’s why you can’t trust just every post you read
you never see the full story in just 1-2

so here's a backstory for you:

→ 2 jobs before this (IT + personal branding agency)
→ both drained the life out of me
→ i was freelancing on the side, working nights, skipping sleep
→ my clients started paying me more than my salary

so i quit

was it smart?
that’s a whole other story

but i’ll tell you this:
the real journey didn’t start when i quit my job
it started after

and that’s the part no one talks about

so you all know i quit 2 jobs, 2 years ago
went broke for 8 months
finally got my first inbound lead after that

(if you haven’t read part 1 and 2, you should check my last posts
this is PART 3 of the series)

before talking about what happened after

let me tell you what actually happened during those 8 months?

- i tried outbound
- sent hundreds of cold messages
- closed zero clients

(ofcourse my outreach sucked back then, what did i even expect?)

then one day, i got a reply to my cold pitch....

finally a prospect wanted to know more about my services

i was over the moon (valid reaction, right?)

we hopped on a call
she seemed kind, sweet, finally someone who got it

except she didn’t (painful YESSSS painful lessons were waiting for me)

she said she’d worked with freelancers before, but never saw results
so she didn’t want to invest upfront

desperate me said: "fine let me help you for FREE then🤡"

BIG ROOKIE MISTAKE ALERT!!

i told her i’d work for free and she could pay me revenue share instead

me and a friend of mine, both broke but ambitious women...thought this was our big deal

i mean guys...
the client had 20k followers, great reach, solid lead flow
what could possibly go wrong right?

well....EVERYTHING

turns out i’d just attracted one of my worst nightmare clients ever

and this is where the story gets really messy

"when was the last time you shared your story online?"

i got asked this in a consultation call recently and…

I FROZE!!

because I knew the answer: it’s been a long time.
and even worse: i did it on purpose.

which is ironic, because i’m a ghostwriter.

i preach storytelling every day.
i’ve helped clients close 1000’s of dollars from a single story post.

but when it comes to me? 
i put my own story at the back of the shelf.

and I know I’m not alone.

→ most ghostwriters don’t even write for themselves.
→ most editors never edit their own videos.
→ most designers rarely design for their own brand.

why because we give our 100% to clients, and leave 0% for us.

but here’s the hard pill I had to swallow:

your business doesn’t just need case studies.
it needs YOU.

your rough days, your small wins, your doubts, your pivots.

because nothing connects like a story.

and if I push my clients to share theirs, I can’t hide from mine.

so here’s my challenge to myself:

- stop being the best-kept secret and start sharing your stories here.

and here’s my nudge to you:

if you nodded while reading this… your story deserves to be told too.

it will help someone.
probably more than you think.

i’ve quit 2 jobs before going all in on freelancing

and honestly? those jobs made sure i’d never want a 9-5 again

but was i smart to quit my stable job and jump into freelancing?

YES and a NO

today, i can confidently say yes
back then? everything went to hell

i had 2 clients when i quit
thought i had it all figured out

told myself “i’m going to make this happen”

then.... call it my timing or the reality of freelancing

one client paused, the other got hospitalized

suddenly i was back to square one

still a complete newbie at finding leads
still hiding online because i didn’t know how to show up for myself

- 8 months of little to no income
- 8 months of crying myself to sleep
- 8 months of telling my mom i’d “find a job” just to keep her happy

deep down, i was drowning in doubt.
"was this all a massive mistake?"

(now let me make it clear, i've regretted quitting my jobs

just wasn't sure if i was ready to become that version of myself who has big biggg dreams)

then came the fight
my mom had enough and demanded i find a “real job”

i was pissed, but she wasn’t wrong
and that made it sting even more

i went to bed that night with the heaviest heart

the next morning... call it timing, call it the universe
"i got my first international inbound lead"

did i close the deal? what happened next?
