I know, because that was me when I started.

I had just been laid off from my engineering job. I put my severance into trading, and within months most of it was gone. But instead of walking away, I decided to figure out how to do it right.

I studied the markets like an engineer. I tested strategies. I wrote down every mistake. I learned to manage risk. Slowly, trading became less like a slot machine - and more like a skill I could rely on.

That process became my first book, How to Day Trade for a Living, which went on to become an Amazon bestseller in 17 languages. It also became Bear Bull Traders, a community where traders at every level can learn together, practice, and hold each other accountable.

→ Retirement accounts

In 2015, I lost my job.

Some days I wondered if I’d just ruined my future.
But that period taught me something I still live by today.

Belief.

Zero doubt in how he says it.

I've seen this across trading, mountaineering, and business:

People fail not because their strategy is broken, but because they don't think it will work for them.

They show up to critical moments already doubting. 
Second-guessing their preparation. 
Pulling back right before the breakthrough.

Why?

Deep down, they don't think they deserve to win.

Confidence isn't about being fearless.

It's about trusting your preparation enough to act despite the fear.

3 ways to build unshakeable self-belief:

1/ Stop hoping. Start knowing.
↳ Hope is for lottery tickets.
↳ Peak performance is about repeating what works.
↳ When you've practiced something hundreds of times and executed it successfully dozens more, you're not hoping anymore. You know.

2/ Treat every setback as data, not failure.
↳ Ronaldo doesn't question his ability after a missed shot.
↳ He reviews the angle, the timing, the defence. Then he adjusts.
↳ Your setbacks aren't evidence you can't do this. They're information about what needs to change.

3/ Measure progress, not perfection.
↳ I don't judge myself against some impossible standard.
↳ I track whether I'm better than last month, last quarter, last year.
↳ Am I more disciplined? More patient? More consistent? That's what matters.

When you step up to take that shot, you need absolute confidence in your preparation.

Not arrogance or recklessness. Just certainty.

When you know you've put in the work, when you've proven your process over time, when you've learned from every setback...

Stepping up becomes normal.

That's when you cross the barrier.

You're running on fumes and calling it discipline.

But that's not how succesful people win. 

We're all guilty of pushing too hard for too long.

I get it. I did the same thing for years.

But then you start making mistakes:
↳ Decisions you wouldn't normally make
↳ Reacting instead of responding
↳ Missing things that should be obvious

That's when it clicked: 

Rest isn't optional, it's necessary for growth.

5 Key things I've learned over the years:

1️⃣ Rest isn't weakness. It's strategy.
↳ Your brain makes worse decisions when you're tired.
↳ Taking breaks is how you stay sharp when it counts.

2️⃣ Recovery happens during rest, not during work.
↳ You don't build muscle during the workout.
↳ Progress happens when you give your system time to adapt.

3️⃣ Plan rest like you plan work.
↳ I block time for walks, workouts, and days off the charts.
↳ If it's not scheduled, it won't happen.

4️⃣ Know your personal red flags.
↳ For me, it's impulsive trades or getting short with my team.
↳ Those are signs I need to step back, not push harder.

5️⃣ Quality over quantity.
↳ I'd rather trade well for two hours than poorly for six.
↳ Rest lets you bring quality to everything you do.
