At the time I joined Abstract, it was a Series B company with 60 employees.

Abstract is an enterprise SaaS collaboration tool for mature design teams. The company counts Disney, Hulu, Microsoft and many other Fortune 500 companies in their customer list.

Breathe

Breathe was a simple iPhone app that allowed users to set reminders to take deep breaths throughout the day. I built Breathe as a side project while at Life360 and launched our app a full year before Apple launched their own Breathe app for the Apple Watch.

Before sunsetting, Breathe earned 65k downloads and 4.9/5.0 stars w/ hundreds of reviews.

Canvas

As lead PM for the Canvas shopping and checkout experience, I worked with a cross-functional team of engineers and designers to build an entirely new customer-facing experience from scratch. We then iterated over the following two years to optimize conversion (primarily focused on driving new reservations). 

Canvas was launched as a subsidiary of Ford post-acquisition of Breeze and was later acquired by Fair.com in the summer of 2019. 

For the full year prior to Breeze's acquisition by Ford, I was the first and only product manager, leading a team of four engineers and one designer to build Carmada, our flagship fleet management product. When I joined Breeze, it was a Series A company with 50 employees.

While at Life360, I supported our product managers and built processes for communication between our customer support center in Las Vegas and the QA + Product teams in SF. I also designed from the ground-up an improved tool for our customer support agents to resolve issues.

I don't often get emotional on our podcast, especially not when talking about personal finance. But this episode took an unexpected turn.

We recently had wealth advisor Zach Teutsch on as a guest and the conversation got very real. Because wealth planning these days isn't just about me and my wife. It's about our daughter too.

Most advisors jump straight into retirement accounts and tax planning, but Zach starts by asking questions that completely reframe how people think about money. We unexpectedly found ourselves answering the first two with no prep, on the spot.

Question 1: How would you live if money wasn't a constraint? 
↳ Remove all constraints and allows you to dream big 
↳ Most people discover they want simpler things than they thought 
↳ This uncovers actionable steps you can already take today

Question 2: What would you change if you had 5-10 years left to live? 
↳ Unlike the first question, this one adds constrains
↳ Work trade-offs suddenly become crystal clear
↳ The things that actually matter bubble up fast

We didn't just talk about these questions in the abstract. Marc and I actually shared what came to mind for us. We got vulnerable and as a result, this episode felt a lot more special.

We still covered concrete financial strategies and tips for high earners but only after covering the human aspect aka the bigger picture.

Most of us are chasing net worth growth instead of asking what kind of life that money should enable. It's like building features without understanding the user problem.

Don't get me wrong - you absolutely should be growing your net worth over time. But only if that money is actually working for you and helping you live a meaningful, fulfilling life.

So the real question isn't "How do I make more money?"

It's "How do I want money to enable a more meaningful life for me?"

Answer that first. Then build your financial strategy around it.

I help PMs ace product sense & analytical interviews | Ex-Meta | 3x first PM

I get really bummed when I help PMs ace their product sense & analytical thinking interviews only to later see them fail the leadership & drive interview.

Since the majority of my students and clients are preparing for Meta interviews, I too frequently see an email thread go from 

✅ "I couldn't have passed my PS and AT interviews without you!" 

to 

❌ "I didn't pass the final round and I suspect it's because of the Leadership & Drive interview..."

In fact, the # 1 request I get from my student in post-course feedback is wanting materials and help for this additional interview type.

The reason for this is that L&D is a completely different type of interview than PS and AT. It's less linear, the interviewers often have no script of all the questions they'll ask, and there's a lot of improv by the interviewer to go deep and get more signal. 

It's also all about your actual experience, not a theoretical case. It's personal.

IMO it's a harder interview to nail than PS and AT and I'm less confident in my ability to coach/teach it. And honestly I don't think anyone is bringing the level of rigor I bring to PS and AT materials to L&D materials. It's a gap.

So I enlisted some help from two ex-Meta PMs (coincidentally also ex-Google PMs) to help PM candidates get a peek into the mind of a calibrated interviewer to shed light on what they're actually looking for.

⚡️How top PM candidates prepare and practice for L&D: avoid the most common traps and walk away with practical tips from experienced Meta interviewers and coaches.

I mainly help PMs prep for Product Sense & Analytical Thinking interviews, but I keep hearing about struggles w/ the Leadership & Drive interview.

So yesterday I hosted a free Maven lightning lesson specifically on this topic with Brian Kemler (DoorDash Product Lead, ex-Meta/Google) and Robert Hamilton (coach, ex-Meta/Google) with almost 200 live attendees.

One  of the insights that had everyone taking notes was Brian's counterintuitive approach to story selection: Brian suggested using older examples when talking about struggles or mistakes, and recent ones when sharing wins.

↳ This exploits recency bias in your favor. Since people disproportionately weigh recent events when forming judgments, they'll focus more on your recent successes than your older failures when deciding how capable you are.

The panel covered a lot more ground, including a discussion about each of the four primary evaluation areas for the L&D interview:

1️⃣ Resourcefulness & Results: Can you roll up your sleeves when things go sideways? Sometimes being a PM means jumping in to do whatever needs doing, even if it's not your usual thing.

2️⃣ Seeking Growth & Learning: Try Robert's STARLU approach - add what you actually learned and how you changed your behavior afterward. The upgrade part is key.

3️⃣ Taking Ownership & Accountability: Own what went wrong without making yourself sound incompetent. Show how you figured out root causes and improved things going forward.

4️⃣ Conflict Resolution: Think bigger than quick disagreements. Pick situations that dragged on and really tested your people skills, not just technical debates.

This isn't like your other PM interviews where you showcase frameworks.

This interview is all about how you actually show up when things get messy and human. Your real stories matter more than perfect structure. But story selection is KEY.

And honestly? The best conversations happen when you drop the overly polished approach and let your genuine experiences come through.

Most candidates I see preparing for Meta-style interviews unintentionally put the cart before the horse w/ their practice plan.

After coaching hundreds of PMs through structured interviews, I've noticed a clear pattern in candidate preparation that works vs doesn't.

The approach I recommend has three distinct phases, and getting the order wrong is what leads to frustrating mock sessions where everything just feels... off.

Phase 1: 🧠 Content 
↳ Focus purely on what you're saying, not how you're saying it
↳ E.g. for Product Sense: practice problem identification and segmentation
↳ Templates and frameworks are the key at this phase (ignore spoken delivery and time management)

Phase 2: 🗣️ Delivery
↳ Work on clear communication and storytelling
↳ Develop your verbal chops
↳ Practice smooth transitions between framework sections

Phase 3: ⏱️ Time Management
↳ Develop instincts for when to dive deep vs. stay high-level
↳ Practice making trade-offs when running short on time
↳ Start using the timer as your best friend

Here's what I see: most people jump straight to phases 2 and 3 because they feel more "interview-like" mocks... They want to simulate the real pressure immediately. But that's a mistake.

I worked with a senior PM last month who learned this the hard way.

She started doing full timed mocks from day one, getting overwhelmed by delivery pressure while her content foundation was still shaky. 

Everything felt broken because she was trying to optimize multiple dimensions simultaneously.

Unsurprisingly, the feedback that she got was really negative and it shook her confidence.

Why starting with content works better:
↳ Each practice session has clear, measurable improvement (esp if you use an AI practice copilot)
↳ Feedback becomes focused and actionable instead of scattered
↳ You build confidence in your thinking before adding delivery and time pressure

Whether you're prepping for Meta interviews or coaching someone else through the process, respecting this sequence will make your practice sessions way more productive and a lot less frustrating.

Practice one phase at a time. 

Start with content, then work on delivery, then tighten it up with time management under pressure.

It won't guarantee success but it'll certainly decrease your chance of failure.

What surprised me most was how genuinely helpful people wanted to be. No one asked for payment to share insider insights. They wanted to give back to PM candidates in a tough market.

And diving into each company's process revealed some wild realities. 

💡 Those "4-5 hour homework assignments"? They actually take 20+ hours if you want to seriously compete.

💡 Stripe's hiring process is so intense it's basically a part-time job, but their operational excellence explains exactly why they're so successful.

💡 At Figma, being overly structured with frameworks can backfire; they have a serious allergy to cookie-cutter thinking.

💡 The hiring manager at Uber personally hand-picks every single person in your interview loop. Almost like a favor.

💡 And Uber's "jam" is deliberately designed to feel chaotic (knowing this upfront changes everything as a candidate).

The breakthrough for Marc and me was realizing how uniquely these top companies approach hiring, with almost no well-packaged prep material publicly available to PMs preparing for these loops.

And on that note, I'm excited to share that our Stripe guide is now live! After putting it together, I've gained even more respect for Stripe PMs than I had before. Their process is rigorous AF.

Building these guides has been a wild ride, and I can't wait to see how they help product managers nail their interviews 🎯
