Over the past ten years, I have had the software engineering career I always dream of. Then, I decided to leave my high-paying job... When I started my studies in computer science, I quickly saw a pattern. Most of my colleagues struggled with their social skills, myself included. What could I do in my free time to earn some money and put myself in a situation where I can improve my communications skills? I decided to work as a bartender during the night and study during the day. In retrospect, this gave me precisely the skills I needed to succeed in future projects. After completing my studies, I had an obligatory Y combinator startup dream, which was bound to fail for me. So I took my chances with a company that embraced the SCRUM framework. Direct customer communication, retrospectives, and self-organizing teams, this company had it all. I quickly advanced to leading teams, where I found my passions in mentoring and training. My results: ▶ Shipped multiple projects from draft to go live ▶ Lead teams to become self-organized ▶ Trained multiple software engineers to become the best version of themselves ▶ Become the go-to person to save projects I had a good time regarding fun, responsibility, and a salary that I could never have dreamt of.
