I gave up alcohol in January — and that decision changed a lot for me.
For years, I loved drinking Samuel Adams, Corona, and other types of alcohol to cope with stress and work-related issues. I wasn’t happy with where I was, and drinking became my go-to stress reliever.

But once I started building my podcasting business, something shifted. I began to genuinely enjoy the work, the growth, and the creative development. And I realized that if I wanted to take things to the next level, I needed to let go of the habits that were holding me back — including using alcohol as a stress outlet.

So when my medical scheduling contract ended in July, I made the choice to stop drinking. Other than my 40th birthday and occasionally with a meal, I haven’t touched alcohol.

And the results have been real: I feel clearer, more focused, and more confident when networking and pushing my business ideas forward. Even last night, Tiffany Hervas, LMSW, and everyone else congratulated me and were genuinely happy to hear about my progress.

This has been a meaningful step toward the version of myself I’m working to become.

The Data Science class was delayed tonight! Online till 630! Why? In July I was laid off at optum one month later I applied to the data science and machine learning certification program at WCC but first was the Pepsi workforce scholarship interview. 

As it turns out, in August I was awarded the scholarship and unemployment benefits. The scholarship made this program a little easier for me this fall, as I did not have to worry about finding the means to pay for an introductory class. 

and the award event was tonight so it was a good way to end the last month of quarter 3 and enter quarter 4 with some happiness note this.

 Bad lighting aside, the message is what matters.
Last year, Tiffany Hervas, LMSW, and Mr. Francis Lora, LCSW-R,         SIFI were invited to the Autism Experience Podcast, and both stopped by. Two things happened that day: Tiffany and Francis gave me a full financial life breakdown, which included helping me set up a Transamerica IUL (Indexed Universal Life) policy, and they also encouraged me to get licensed with Revolution Financial Management.

This was my second time exploring that path. And while I truly believe insurance products play an important role in people’s lives, getting licensed to sell them isn’t always the best fit for everyone. We gave the NYS Life & Health exam two to three honest attempts—but sometimes the path you think is yours isn’t the one that works out.

Fast-forward to last night: they hosted their annual Client Appreciation Evening, a smaller five-hour networking-style event—and of course, I attended.

In the past, when I networked, I wasn’t always clear about what I wanted or needed. But this year felt different. After my role at Optum came to an end in July, I’ve had time to gain clarity about the opportunities I’m looking for and the direction I want to move toward.

The four people I spoke with last night—including Tiffany—told me they would keep an eye out for opportunities that align with my skills and goals. That meant a lot.
Here’s to clarity, connections, and the next chapter.

Last week, I was approached by the founder of a nonprofit who asked if I would create a podcast for her organization. I said yes — but with one important condition: we need to discuss compensation, because this would be freelance work.

It’s interesting… LinkedIn talks a lot about “opportunities,” and it is a powerful platform — but we rarely talk about what kinds of opportunities people actually receive, and for which age groups. At 40, I’ve learned that many of the offers that come my way aren’t paid at all. People expect work for free, especially in creative and media roles.
The nonprofit founder understood and agreed to discuss a proposal. That moment made me reflect on something important that I want to share here:
➡️ My contract ended in July, and it has taught me a valuable lesson: I am always happy to help, collaborate, and support organizations — but only when my work is compensated.
 ➡️ My skills, time, and creative labor have value.
To be clear: I love helping friends with promotions and projects, but as a professional, I will only take on work as a compensated freelancer.

Know your worth. Advocate for your value. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries — no matter your industry or age.

AI is an incredible innovation, but like any early-stage technology, it comes with real challenges. One issue we discussed yesterday at Tech Empowerment Day was bias—because AI ultimately reflects the people and perspectives of those who build it. And historically, we know which communities are most impacted when technology isn’t built with everyone in mind.

That’s why organizations like The Knowledge House, co-founded by Jerelyn Rodriguez, are so important. TKH creates life-changing opportunities in tech for Black and Latin communities by training talent for high-skill, high-growth careers.

For me, this mission hits home. Growing up in Cross River, NY in the 2000s, the only accessible training path was through BOCES—but most programs were focused on construction trades, which didn’t fit everyone. Meanwhile, many of my peers with financial resources could pursue strong university pathways that weren’t available to all of us.

I even shared this yesterday during Mike Spade’s session: neurodiverse individuals, myself included, deserve equal access to tech careers and opportunities to climb the ladder of society. Inclusion in tech isn’t optional—it’s essential for building a fair and future-ready world.

I have a selected YouTube video next week, and I want to give a heads-up because this is a loaded topic. People have strong opinions on both sides.
Personally, I believe private-sector workers should have the right to unionize. Why? Because leaving employees to negotiate one-on-one with management doesn’t always work in our favor. Managers don’t always recognize or value what we bring to the table.

Some people argue that it’s our personal responsibility to negotiate and that we can just switch companies if we don’t like the offer. But many of those same people still end up getting lowballed, and changing companies isn’t always as easy as it sounds.

Here’s my defense: even though teaching is a stressful profession, ask teachers whether their pay and contracts are better because their union or teachers’ association negotiates on their behalf. I’m willing to bet most of them would say the membership fees are worth it.

Why do austic men and women have a difficult time moving up at work? well this is a loaded question and here's the reality. the world off work isnt made for us its made for the none austic person. in everything from socialization to how to act. 

So what is the best way to work with us? would it be to employ us remote? which would make sense? well here in again no and I asked claude ai a intriguing question this is what the answer sort of was. 

Before we ask is this my overuse of ai? 

Not what ai does here is confirm things I've realized about my situation during this chapter and also come to the conclusion. 

The Modern work sites our not made for autistic men and women yet they insist we participate in society.

Yesterday, I saw a video on here that honestly repulsed me. A popular influencer claimed journalism is just a hobby and that you “can’t find work in it.”

Let me tell you something: I can name at least five journalism majors working at major networks right here on LinkedIn. But let’s use one big example — Pat McAfee.

Pat played eight seasons with the Colts in the NFL and punted for four years at West Virginia University. He was drafted in 2009, retired in 2017, and then jumped into media. He joined Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports — and today he’s one of the richest podcasters in the world, right next to Joe Rogan.

So don’t tell me journalism is a hobby.
Most adults today make real money from skills and passions they turned into businesses — not just from W-2 jobs.

Another example: MJ Acosta. She went from being a Dolphins cheerleader to earning a journalism degree and is now a respected sideline reporter on ESPN.

Influencers should not be telling job seekers what’s a hobby and what’s “serious.” They don’t define the industry — the people doing the work do.

My parting words to every journalism major:
 Stick to your major. Market yourself. Build your brand.

I follow podcasters and newscasters — not influencers — because I’m an autistic podcaster myself, and they inspire me.

Myths like “job hugging” and “upskilling will save your career” drive me crazy. The worst part? So many people follow influencers who feed these narratives, and folks eat it up. If your favorite influencer told you it was raining urine, some of y’all would believe it as long as it fit their storyline.
Let’s be real:
 
Upskilling alone won’t save your career.
 And “job hugging”—even for someone who’s autistic—is just another buzzword like “quiet quitting.” These terms don’t address the real issue:
 
The companies we glorify have made it nearly impossible to live, and they shift all accountability onto workers while they make the decisions.
Then you hear, “But Benjamin, we need new skills in the age of AI! Stop hating.”
 
I’m not hating. I’m being honest. I’m not saying don’t learn new things—go ahead. But let’s stop pretending it guarantees career security or significantly higher pay.
Here’s a smarter solution:
 
We need strong public labor unions again—real worker-led power and organization. Millennials and Gen X know exactly what I’m talking about. This is at least a semi-intelligent way to address the root problems.

And about “job hugging”: sometimes we have the choice, and sometimes we don’t. Let people decide what’s best for their own lives.

The entire hiring system is still built around two outdated documents — the resume and the cover letter — while HR quietly demands far more.

This is the direction the modern economy is moving — skill-first, proof-first, not resume-first.

Build a real portfolio
Build testimonials
Build experience even when jobs aren’t hiring

Today I came across an inspiring story from actress Tia Santamaria—and it hit home for anyone chasing a dream.
Tia is a triplet, born to Dominican parents in Ohio. She became a mom at 17, built a career in supply chain management, and like many of us, once worked a regular 9–5. But her passion was always acting. Now she’s breaking into Hollywood and sharing the real behind-the-scenes truth:

Not metaphorically—literally free.
One of my podcast co-founders, Aaron Katter, who works as a freelance video editor, says the same thing: the entertainment industry can be incredibly tough on both new and existing workers. Big studios and Fortune 500 companies control the rules, and getting a foot in the door can feel just like breaking into tech—lots of unpaid “opportunities,” lots of rejection, and a lot of people who simply can’t afford to say yes to free labor.

Tia even shared that she’s been rejected from roles simply because she asked to be paid for her work.

I commented on her video and told her this message belongs on LinkedIn—because it does. It’s a reminder that talent deserves fair compensation, no matter the industry.

Okay, if I'm a journalism major, which I'm not, I'm a podcast host who should I follow for advice and insights? Branded Job search experts who claim they know what it takes? To get hired or Mrs. NewsLady who's been a news anchor for big media outlets?

If you answered A, I have no comment for you, because job search experts, aka influencers, have one-size-fits-all systems and stick to selling them. 

Why would I suggest someone in the actual industry instead? They have been hired to be a news anchor and know what traditional media outlets look for.

There is a ton of questionable advice on this platform, and even I'm not that desperate to follow anyone who didn't work in an industry I want to work in.

If you want to defend the coaches and influencers your choice but be warned it's not always your resume that's the issue it's sometimes the market itself and these are the things Chris educates on
