Nutshell

I directed all inbound lead generation and brand marketing efforts for Nutshell, a simple and affordable CRM and email marketing platform for B2B organizations.

Among my key responsibilities, I managed a seven-figure annual marketing budget across paid channels and content production—continually fine-tuning our strategy to ensure that CAC and cost per lead were efficient from every lead source—while guiding each member of the marketing team’s professional development.

My efforts helped sustain positive revenue growth for Nutshell throughout my tenure, contributing to the company’s acquisition by WebFX in August 2022.

As Head of Content and Communications, I directed Nutshell's growing investment in content marketing as a lead generation engine, while providing structure and oversight to our product marketing efforts and expanding the visibility and impact of the Nutshell brand.

During this time, I developed our blog into our most dependable and cost-effective lead gen channel, often generating more SQLs than all paid channels combined, and hitting all-time peaks in terms of organic traffic generated and sales leads generated from blog visits.

As Content Marketing Manager, my notable responsibilities and accomplishments included:

- Directing content strategy for Nutshell's "Sell to Win" blog, and increasing organic search visits to the blog 64X from Q4 2016 (2,000 visits) to Q1 2020 (129,000 visits). Fun fact: In January 2017, the Nutshell blog generated just 8.7% of Nutshell.com's total organic search traffic. Through my content and SEO efforts, that percentage increased nearly every single month, reaching 85% in January 2020.

- Launching our “Sell to Win” blog newsletter, and building the subscriber base from 400 to 25,000+ 

- Developing the blog into a dependable, cost-effective lead generation channel. In Q1 2017, just 19 Nutshell trial signups originated in blog entrances, compared to 403 in Q1 2020, a 21X increase. In November 2019, the Nutshell blog began producing more sales-qualified leads than our Google Ads account. Woo-hoo!

- Building and managing a stable of well-known sales experts and authors to provide original contributions to Nutshell’s blog, including Brian Tracy, David Hoffeld, Jeb Blount, Lori Richardson, Tim Sanders, Koka Sexton, Ryan Dohrn, and Charlene DeCesare.

- Serving as lead writer for all other Nutshell marketing efforts, including marketing video scripts, thought leadership, email drip campaigns, product tour pages, and SEO-focused landing pages.

Credibly

Credibly is a financial technology platform that has helped thousands of small and medium-sized businesses across the U.S. secure access to working capital. As Manager of Content Marketing, my chief responsibilities included:

- Leading editorial efforts for Credibly's small business education blog InCredibly and the Credibly Business Journal quarterly ebook series, with the goal of attracting website visitors, converting those visitors into sales leads, and educating existing customers. 

- Recruiting and managing InCredibly's roster of contributing editors, who provide expert advice and inspiration to business owners through their blog posts and interviews.

- Composing and scheduling all messaging for Credibly's social media channels.

- Creating targeted email and newsletter copy for various marketing channels (including prospects, customers, and sales partners), to help nurture business relationships and provide added value. Through my efforts, Credibly's email click-through rate grew from 2.9% in Q1 2016 to 5.6% in Q2 2016.

- Contributing byline articles to external business publications, to promote the Credibly brand and further establish Credibly’s executive team as thought-leaders in the SMB lending industry.

- Proofreading all other public-facing copy, including press releases, website landing pages, presentation decks, and direct marketing materials.

- Directed editorial and social media strategy for CagePotato.com — one of the Internet’s largest and most influential MMA news sites — from the site's launch in October 2007 until January 2015.

- Built CagePotato.com to 5 million monthly pageviews at peak, and grew its Facebook following from 0 to 50,000+ fans.

- Managed over a dozen staff writers and contributors.

- In June 2014, I was put in charge of managing ScreenJunkies.com, a leading TV/movie news site best known for its highly popular video series ("Honest Trailers," "Supercuts," "ScreenJunkies Show").

- In the seven months that I managed the social media channels for ScreenJunkies.com, the site’s Facebook fanbase increased by 63% and its Twitter following more than doubled.
