As a previous educator of 10+ years, most of these solutions were quite creative and completed within a limited budget and scarce resources. I landed in a role I never even applied for!

But it took 4 months. 

Does that sound like a long time? 

Well, it's not really. It flies by!

During those 4 months, I...

✅ Got my PMP!
✅ Applied to 50+ roles.
✅ Optimized my profile.
✅ Practiced for interviews.
✅ Took breaks when needed!
✅ Went in with an open mind.
✅ Redid my resume a few times.
✅ Looked for jobs closer to home.
✅ Had 12 interviews in two weeks!
✅ Targeted my upskilling approach.
✅ Made a list of must haves for my new role.
✅ Upskilled in Project Management and Tech.
✅ Completed certain tasks to be done different days.

But mostly, I enjoyed the adventure and every small victory along the way! 

And finally, I landed in a new role that I never applied for!

And I LOVE it! 

So whether it takes 4 months, a year, or much more... just realize the right job will find you! 

Success is what you define it to be. 

And everyone's success looks different. 

So don't give up! I know you CAN do it!

Monday will mark 5 months since I've been in my new role!!! 

How am I liking it?! 👀👀👀

I'm still loving it! 

It was a big jump from what I did in education. I mean education to technical backend of project management? Who would have thought I'd end up here???

Not me... 

But I wouldn't change it and truly love what I do!

Why do I love it? Great question!

✅ They listen to my ideas. Even the bad ones! 🤣
✅ Autonomy and no micromanagement!
✅ The most amazing mentor EVER!!!
✅ I'm learning so much every day!
✅ Duh! It's technical backend PM! 
✅ Working from home is so nice!
✅ More time for my family!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! 

I guess long story short, don't be afraid to try something new. Make sure you go in with an open mind, listening ears, and ready to learn brain! With those, you can conquer anything!

Sometimes, it IS ok to settle during a job search. 

YES! I said what I said! 👀😏

Maybe you fall into one of these categories. 👇🏼

Needing to find something quickly due to a layoff.
Settling because a job meets the rest of your criteria.
Quitting without a backup because you need out NOW. 
Finding an introductory position to learn a new industry.
Being hard up for money because it doesn't grow on trees.

I've been through EVERY ONE of these scenarios. 

I get it. I've been there. 

Everyone will tell you not to settle. 

If you don't have to, then maybe don't. 🤷🏼‍♀️

But if you do have to, then it's not such a bad thing. 

I wouldn't be in my current role that I love without doing a little settling myself. 

Your job gem will come at the most unexpected of times, so just be ready to hop on it when it comes your way. 💪🏼

❌ Think I can do no wrong. 
❌ Make me the highest priority.
❌ Believe I'm better than anyone else.
❌ Only do things that benefit me and my goals. 

But choosing ME does mean...

✅ Realizing I'm an awesome bada55!
✅ Making mistakes steps towards success.
✅ Making my priorities my actual priorities. 
✅ Giving myself permission to chase my dreams.
✅ Learning that my story helps and inspires others.

So if you need to choose YOU, give yourself that permission. 

It's ok. 

It'll feel weird at first because you may not have thought you were worth it. But I'm here to tell you...

YOU are worth more than you could ever imagine! ❤️

I can't tell you the amount of times that something hasn't gone the way I planned during a project. 

Actually, I don't think I've EVER had one go as expected. 

And that's ok. Knowing how to get a project back on the rails is the most important thing. But how do you do that? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great question!

Here are some of my favorite tips. 👇🏼

𝟏. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝. Things are GOING to go wrong. It happens. So make a list of all the things you think could go wrong. Consult your team and SMEs to get input on possible issues and the amount of time it may take to fix them if they come up. Then make sure to add some wiggle room to your expected project duration. This way you have some extra time already planned WHEN something goes wrong. 

𝟐. 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬. It's SO important to understand how to interact with everyone involved in a project. What works with one may not work for all. Figure out what makes everyone tick, and I promise you'll receive better performance from your team and keep your stakeholders happier. 

𝟑. 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐲-𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐘 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭. You want to create an atmosphere that you are all working towards a common goal and make sure everyone involved in the project understands why it is important. You want to do this EARLY in a project rather than later. It promotes better team performance. And once you're halfway through, if you haven't created that buy-in within your stakeholders, they may just decide it's not important enough to finish and cancel it. There's nothing like working really hard on a project just to have it flop. 

𝟒. 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭. You want to have a clear understanding of the project, goals, what needs to be done, and how to get there before you start. If you just wing it, you will DEFINITELY run into WAY more issues, and it may just crash and burn the whole thing. 

𝟓. 𝐁𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥-𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝. Things happen. Issues happen. Timelines change. Try not to overreact and look at the contingency that you created for this issue. And if there's not a contingency, do your best to be level-headed and come up with one. You do NOT want to be the PM that no one wants to work with because you were being... well... YOU. Consult for help and think logically. You're strong negative emotions will not fix the issue any faster.
