I've been in the oil and gas industry since 1996, started on service rigs, and assisted in the upstarts of two companies: Eagle Well Servicing and Performance Well Services. After that, I moved on to consulting until the opportunity was presented to work as Operations Manager at Big Guns Energy Services, working with Innovator Rigs. Cut to 2015, an economic downturn and a double whammy provincial and federal government working against our industry. I had to get creative: diversify my skill set, learn how to apply all my transferable skills, and do everything I could to keep my head above water. Over those challenging years, I worked with various services and tech innovations, including downhole tools and compression, here in Canada and internationally. I also continued to develop as an entrepreneur working as a contracted service provider. In the meantime, I was surrounded by a group of like-minded people in the industry I trust and can always count on. We talk a lot about the life this industry provided us, all we’ve experienced, and how we could give back to new entries and support those larger companies that have kept us going. Most of us now have kids entering the workforce, and we’ve shared concern around the ways the new generation might not be properly prepared to perform at the skill and service level our clients need and deserve. That’s how Atlas was born. Over years of learning, strategizing, innovating, and building, we’ve gathered knowledge, experience and a valuable network. We’ve also seen a disconnect. We realize times have changed, and we want to be part of the transition for the future and longevity of Canadian energy that supports the communities we care about.
