Yet he founded an institution that changed the face of American Jewry – Yeshiva Torah Vo’daas. And it wasn’t because he had connections, or money, or family support. He started off as a lone teenage peddler on the streets of New York. But he saw a gaping hole in Orthodox Jewish life and he decided he would fill it. Binyomin Wilhelm is my great-grandfather and namesake. And it’s his legacy that taught me to act when action is needed. I am compiling research for a biography about my great-grandfather’s life, and eventually hope to turn it into a curriculum that will teach our children from a young age that they have the power to change the world.
