A voracious reader from early childhood, I spent more time with books than the television or on the basketball court. Ditching "The Adventures of Dick and Jane" for Dr. Suess and the Hardy Boys, I found myself mesmerized by storytelling. I created comic strips and wrote short stories for my personal amusement. Later, as an honors student in English classes, I did more serious pieces for my creative writing class. As I witness events around me unfolding, however mundane, my mind is constantly composing words to tell the story. Life got in the way of me becoming the next Hemingway, and I have years of experience in disparate fields such as customer service/sales, light manufacturing, and heavy industry. But I never tired of reading books or scribbling stories for my own enjoyment. Growing weary of watching coworkers senior to me punching the clock and waiting to die, I knew that I wanted something different from my life. So in late 2016, I quit my job as a quality manager, sold all of my possessions, and boarded a plane to Bangkok. I taught English part-time and explored parts of southeast Asia for three years. I continued writing stories in my personal blog very few people were aware of, and in Facebook posts, which garnered more than a few "TL;DR" comments. In early 2020 I took a sabbatical from teaching in order to travel a bit and transform myself into a content writer. Partially because of the COVID situation, there were a lot of stops and starts (mostly stops), and I found myself back in the classroom again so I could pay rent and buy food. But realizing how easily I could get comfortable doing that and not willing to put my dream on hold any longer, I ended that position and determined that I was going to write for a living. With some assistance from an experienced coach, I have begun to build a portfolio and take on new challenges and clients. My interests include admiring sunsets, exploring by motorcycle, playing board games, and watching too much Netflix. I have begun trying to get into shape (more triangular, less oval) by working out mornings with a kickboxing trainer. I drink way too much coffee, not nearly enough good tequila, and I'm lucky enough to look much younger than I actually am.
