Being generous makes everyone’s life better.  It doesn’t matter if you are the giver, the receiver, or just an on-looker.   

Bob learned this lesson at a very young age.  In fact, if it wasn’t for some generous acts, Bob likely wouldn’t be here today.  He has dedicated his life to empowering mission-driven organizations to build cultures of generosity that are made up of fulfilled employees and satisfied customers.

The Generosity Guy has worked professionally and in volunteer roles for 23 years, in three different countries, and in 17 states.

When Bob was given a cancer diagnosis and experienced the tragic events of 9/11 in New York City,  he thought not only his life over, but everyone else’s too.  He went from feeling like an invincible 18-year-old to an unworthy victim of life.  

What happened in the months and years following was truly miraculous - or was it generous?  The acts of generosity he experienced saved his life.

The problem with highlight culture is not the celebration of what is great.

It's not even that we only see the great stuff but skip the "daily grind".

𝘐𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵.

Your best is different than my best.

Mine is different than the next person's.

If you've ever played a sport and watched film, you know you learn more from the bad plays.

👉🏼This is how you get better.


𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵

A lot of people will tell you to "mess up and move on".

That's great if you're building a highlight reel.

👉🏼But you're building a business.

Go ahead, take those highlights when they come.

But don't rely on them for greatness.

I've seen a million of these types of videos.
The market is saturated to say the least.  But...

🔥𝘐 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘩𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦.

𝗪𝗲'𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Don't just see paratriathlete "overcoming the odds".

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵.

This isn't just about:

➡ determination
➡ perseverance
➡ inspiration
➡ toughness

💪🏼He's got all those.

But if that's the only thing you see...

...you're missing something.


𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗿

Some sports require you do one thing really well.

The unique thing about triathlons is you have to be an excellent swimmer, biker, and runner.

A lot of things have to come together.

Think about all the other things that come together in this type of competition:

➡ the entire event itself
➡ the robotic technology
➡ help from the other person

and of course, the athletes' talent.

👉🏼We live and work in a complex world.

A lot of things have to come together for greatness.


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀?

I encourage you to see more than a grind in your life and work.

📈Limitations are opportunities to collaborate.

📈Collaborations are opportunities to grow.

📈Growth is what we all need.

📈𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵.

There's something I wish they told me when I started my career.

𝗜𝘁 𝗮𝗶𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆.

Seems simple but we forget this the longer we are in a job.

♦️Some expect perfection.

♦️Some expect constant progress.

♦️Others expect you to just show up daily.

I've been all of these, but one thing always remained.


𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗴𝗹𝘆

And maybe that makes life and work beautiful.

🔷You can do everything perfectly and lose.

🔷But you can also look terrible and be victorious.


𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗜 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.

Run each race to the best of your abilities.

I found the perfect example of being an entrepreneur I've ever seen.

I've never been skimboarding before but I would imagine it's pretty tough.

You run full speed, try to throw down your board on (hopefully) flat water, and jump on.

...not to mention timing this with a wave to ride. 🌊

𝗜𝘁 𝗔𝗶𝗻'𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 🏄 

There are definitely similarities but one big difference is skimboarding requires a lot of self-made momentum.

Whereas surfing, although not easier by any means, relies completely on waves to get going.

👉🏼Surfing is in deeper waters. Skimming is close to the shore.


𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

You will never find success if you don't do some skimming - especially early on.

In fact, each thing you try will require some self-made momentum.

Each attempt requires some sort of sprint to get moving.


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀?

It means you can only do so many things.

It's easy as a high performer to try a million things to make your business work.

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘰𝘵.

‼️But you can't try every idea.


𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱

Your goal should always be to get to deeper waters - to surf.

Skim to start but you can only do so much on your own.

𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴.

Don't do it more than you have to.

Focus on the things that give you momentum - the stuff that is working.

The guy in the video makes it look too easy.

Hundreds, maybe thousands of attempts it takes to be that smooth.


𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

Instead of 1,000 "skims", have 3 at most.

👉🏼3 priorities you're pushing towards

𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵.

Once you've mastered something and you're in the deep water, you can move on to something else.

I wish I knew that direction was more important than pace when I first started my business.

🤔Maybe it was better.


𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱:

➡Too much technology

➡A slick CRM with all the features

➡100 Standard operating procedures

➡A flashy website (with no call to action)

➡An detailed employee handbook (no employees)
➡The greatest "go to market" strategy known to man

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵!

I could make calls, automate, and hire (even though I had no need to) with the best of them.

I was getting so much done...
...but making so little progress.


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿

I'm all for speed, but only once you have mastery.

(decision-making might be the only exception)

Especially at first, you have to expect a rough journey.
*𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰

You can implement every tip, trick, or hack on the internet to "speed you up".

👉🏼But they will ultimately slow you down.

Focus on crossing the rough waters in the right direction (see the video again). Speed will come.  


𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗧𝗼𝗼

I'm not one of those "don't make the same mistake I did" & "I can help you avoid every problem ever" guys.

But I can make you aware you'll fall into the speed trap from time to time. That's okay.

Just make sure you don't speed right off the bridge.

You're not willing to admit you have too much going on.

I thought juggling a lot of things was a badge of honor.

But I realized it's only good for one thing: 𝘫𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨.


𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼

👉🏼Juggling itself is an amazing talent.

But that's why most of us shouldn't do it.


𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗜𝘁

➡ email
➡ media
➡ reports
➡ content
➡ financials
➡ phone calls
➡ one-on-ones
➡ team meetings

These might be necessary.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴.

Which are essential to your role?


𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲

It's better to prioritize quality over quantity.

Show up great for what matters most.

Master that before adding more.


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝟯

I heard it said the human mind can only have 3 priorities at any given time.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘱 3?


𝗠𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗧𝗼-𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁" 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁

It was easier for me to admit I had too much going on when I starting counting what I 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 do.

This led to my "to-don't" list.

It's a bunch of stuff that distracts me from the priorities.

𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰.

➡ Conversation
➡ Slack message
➡ Town Hall Meeting

contributes to your culture.

𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

How you talk to people.

How they respond.


𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿

Some will tell you it starts at the top.

👉🏼But it continues everywhere else.

If you feel like your workplace communication is a big traffic jam that pushes people off the edge (𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰),

then you need better systems.


𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Here are a few ways to help, work on one at a time:

➡𝙰̲𝚌̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚟̲𝚎̲ ̲𝙻̲𝚒̲𝚜̲𝚝̲𝚎̲𝚗̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚐̲

-Effort matters.  
-Many issues can be solved just by listening more closely to your colleagues.


➡ ̲𝙿̲𝚊̲𝚛̲𝚊̲𝚙̲𝚑̲𝚛̲𝚊̲𝚜̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚐̲

-This ensures understanding.
-Repeat back what you've taken in and get a response from the other party.


➡ ̲𝙽̲𝚘̲𝚗̲𝚟̲𝚎̲𝚛̲𝚋̲𝚊̲𝚕̲ ̲𝙲̲𝚘̲𝚖̲𝚖̲𝚞̲𝚗̲𝚒̲𝚌̲𝚊̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚘̲𝚗̲

-Sometimes, it's not even about what you say.
-Great communication includes cues that allow people to anticipate messaging and focus better.


➡ ̲𝚃̲𝚒̲𝚖̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚐̲

-Timing is everything, or at least really important.
-You can save a lot of time if you know 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 is the right time. Normalize timing for specific topics.


➡ ̲𝙰̲𝚏̲𝚏̲𝚒̲𝚛̲𝚖̲𝚊̲𝚝̲𝚒̲𝚘̲𝚗̲𝚜̲

-Positivity wins, as long as it's real
-Don't patronize but when you affirm people for good work, they tend to communicate with you more.


➡ ̲𝚃̲𝚎̲𝚌̲𝚑̲𝚗̲𝚘̲𝚕̲𝚘̲𝚐̲𝚢̲

-Tech is everywhere.
-Use the tools for reminders, automation, encouragement, etc. It's an enhancement for just about everything.


➡ ̲"̲𝙲̲𝚒̲𝚛̲𝚌̲𝚕̲𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚐̲ ̲𝙱̲𝚊̲𝚌̲𝚔̲"̲

-It's cliché. I know.
-Don't sleep on reviewing previous messages. It's not just a review. It's reinforcing of key communications.

Especially with AI, it's easier than ever to gather info.

Tracking hours tells you how much time things take.

Tracking results shows you if effort is well done.

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?

🔸Just don't complain if someone clocks out when they've accomplished their job - and done it well.


𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁

💪🏼This is the controllable.  

You want of team full of people who give their own 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 effort - not a team full of clones.

Hire talented people and let them find their own way down the mountain. *𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰

Most people will hike down the mountain in the summer and ski down it in the winter.

You've heard all of these.

But what do they really mean?

These are different processes.

It's like running the race in the lead - start to finish.

Starting in the back, and making up ground.

Name an athlete or team that never messed up.

Name a business or entrepreneur that never struggled.


𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 '𝗧𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗲

Hall could have easily lost his form trying to catch up in the first 50m.

𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘤𝘬 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘵.

🏃🏼‍➡️400m is a long way.


𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻

The good news is you have 𝘸𝘢𝘺 more than 400m to win in your business.

Don't get complacent but don't bail on your form/strategy because it's not working right away.

It's 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 the same exact repeatable process.

I got fired up on this week's pod because you can't build a workplace culture with just consistency.


𝗜𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

👉🏼You have to iterate too.

This is executing the same process with adjustments as you go.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗼

➡ Repeat everything 
➡ Believe stuff will always work
➡ Assume new people are the same
➡ think what got you here will get you there
➡ Double down when something works once


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱

But here's the key:

You don't reinvent the wheel each time.

You walk into the room and you have no idea what to say.

You can't make a difference with a general comment without a personal touch.

Your impact is determined by how you address people individually.

It's like you're required to ask them how they are doing.

You kinda are...but so is 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 else.


𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱:

1. How can I assist your 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴?

❌Not just "help". Acknowledge their existing effort.


2. Where are you at in the 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴?

❌Not just the task. Acknowledge their progress.


3. Who could be the 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 helpful today?

❌Not just you. Acknowledge others' abilities.


4. What are you working on right now?

❌Not just overall. Acknowledge their current emotions.


5. When should I check in 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯?

❌Not just on you. Acknowledge their timing.

You are less credible than you think.

𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲?

You spend so much time trying to be credible and you're not relatable.

What matters is that people believe you are not only willing, but that you want to serve them as best you can.

There are 100 different reasons why people don't always choose the best, or most credible:

▶️ Lack of access
▶️ Too expensive 
▶️ Inconvenient 
▶️ Gut feeling
▶️ Ignorance 

What are the other 95? 🤪

I don't guarantee a lot but I will this one thing: 

Focus on serving one customer really well and others will believe you'll do it again.

You're underestimating your ability for one thing.

Many think that in order to get a promotion they have to "prove" they are worthy.

It gives you a false sense of ability - as if your good enough just not being recognized.

If you have to prove it, you're 𝘯𝘰𝘵 it.

And you're taking away from whatever it is you have.

What matters is what you 𝘤𝘢𝘯 do, not what you did.


𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

𝘈 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦.  

If your work is top notch and no one notices, you don't want that promotion anyway.

It will just get worse at the next level. In fact, you're boss is probably experiencing it themself.

What you want is the belief that you can learn how to do something well, not necessarily the recognition of what you've already done.

𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸.


𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝗶𝗻'𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁...

...𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦.

Instead of fighting to be recognized, fight to learn what's next.

Ask the boss not to "pay attention to you".  

This says:

➡ Look at me!
➡ I worked hard!

Ask them to help you learn how to do and earn more.

This says:

➡ Look at us.
➡ I have hard work to do.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺.

It's you have energy to grow 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 the company.

👉🏼You'll show you're ready.

But not overconfident.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽

I know this feeling.

It happens when you combine some intellect with a desire to achieve.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘱.

The growth catches you when your focus is the personal result and not the shared result.

There's a problem with being really talented. High achievers miss this all the time.

(and it hurts their business)

It hurts their business because it hurts the people.


𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗠𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

Most business leaders will talk about how they want others to "take responsibility".

👉🏼The problem is you can only take so much.

When you assign 100 tasks to people, they have too much responsibility.

𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘦, 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘺.

It happens because you're used to doing everything.


𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀

I believe in hiring for the person and not just the skills.

𝘉𝘶𝘵!

You shouldn't create a bunch of jacks of all trades.

⚠️You'll have masters of nothing.

Recruit a bunch of "team players" to your team but know 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺.


𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝘅 𝗶𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘄

This can be a scary thing.

👉🏼But there is a simple fix.

You want 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 good people with 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 focuses.

Encourage 2 things:

1️⃣Continuous Learning
2️⃣Continuous Direction

You 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 have both.

In other words, have people lean into their strengths but never stop improving.


𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀

This is what you'll help people do:

👏🏼Avoid Burnout
👏🏼Do Their Best Work
👏🏼Improve Their Abilities

Seems like a great workplace environment, huh?

You can still "high achieve" without doing everything.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽

𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘱.

When you build the skills to do something well, you're simultaneously building confidence. 

Then, when it's time to act you're confident 𝘢𝘯𝘥 capable.


𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝗱

Truthfully, I believe everyone is 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 capable of something.

"𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘉𝘰𝘣, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯?

To tell you you're already capable of contributing something - that you should 𝘣𝘦 confident.


𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 👇🏼

Why do so many sources tell us this?

Should we:

➡ expect perfection?
➡ automate everything?
➡ repeat only what works?
➡ do the same thing over and over?

I'm sure you'd say no.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺.


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄

Consistency is great but it could be insane.

𝘋𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴.🤷🏼‍♀️

If you want to grow, you have to 𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦 too.

➡ Try new things.
➡ Reinvent something.
➡ Improve what you can.
➡ Look for different opportunities

Do all these things and expect others in your company to do the same.

📈Now, that's a growth culture!

Yes, keep it consistent.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦.

It's not just the leader.

𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 has to be able to react when stuff ain't normal.


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼

🤣 I laughed out loud when watching this one.

It's not your normal skating video.

I was expecting some kind of crazy trick.

He just flew into the water.  𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥.


𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

I like to keep it simple, here's a 3-step process.

1️⃣𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘥

✅Plan 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 well as a team.
✅But plan for unexpected outcomes.
✅Encourage decision making over questioning.


2️⃣𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴

✅Document stuff that doesn't go as planned.
✅Make sure it's not a future surprise.
✅Celebrate the 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 wins. 


3️⃣𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 (𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵)

✅Keep the surprises limited.
✅Normal is boring - at least too much of it.
✅Push yourself and team to experience new things.
