I am a fifty year veteran of the trucking industry. My contributions to the industry have been recognized by being awarded the American Trucking Association/Technology & Maintenance Council’s (TMC) Silver Spark Plug for technical excellence and the Recognized Associate Award for supporting the organization's membership committee. I sold filters for diesel engines until a customer asked me to quit the filter business and help his company build an international sales network of manufacturers’ representatives. I did that until my turbocharger supplier made me an offer I couldn't refuse--become their national sales manager. I had to leave during a reorganization and ended up in the fan clutch business as an independent representative. Being an independent representative meant I could have more than one product line at a time. I added National Seating as the flagship to my line card. Companies would contact me through the TMC and ask me to add them to my line card that was distributed to my fleet, OEM dealer and distributor customer base. Most knew nothing about the trucking industry, and I didn't have time to teach them.
