Many brands rushed into ill-defined Metaverse projects in 2021, often lured by promises of vast audiences. Today, these spaces often remain empty.

Focus on Where the Users Are:  
Currently, Roblox and Fortnite offer the most substantial user bases.  Platforms like Decentraland and The Sandbox primarily attract early adopters, not your potential daily returning customers!

Kickstart Critical Thinking: 
If your main advisor pushes platforms outside of Roblox or Fortnite, demand clear reasoning and realistic KPI projections.

Key Takeaway: 
User numbers are paramount. Empty ecosystems won't drive results for your brand.

Don't confuse Metaverse success with social media virality. Impressions will naturally be different. Focus instead on tailored, impactful experiences.

Huge news from Meta!
Opening up an ecosystem is always a big decision and the move from Meta makes very clear what they are up to.

While others extend their gated ecosystem Meta is opening up which is crucial in terms of building the „open“ Metaverse.

Short reality test:

Who is contributing and building the Metaverse right now? Web3 or the Legacy?

Who is contributing the IT-infrastructure and who owns it? Web3 or the Legacy?

What part has „Web3 (crypto)“ and is it really justified to hype this idea so much?

The Metaverse will become a merger of ALL tech stacks which is quite obviously taking into account what everything is needed to enable different immersive use cases for example.

The move from Meta is for me one of the core evidences that we are still at the beginning of the journey and everyone who still thinks that the Metaverse is already existing should switch their consultants - right away!

I am quite excited how this will play out, but I think it is the completely right way to do for Meta.

We have already downloaded the new version and are ready to dive in today :-).

Here are the most exiting new features of UE 5.4:

Rendering Enhancements

- Nanite Improvements: 
Nanite now supports Tessellation, enabling you to create highly detailed models without significantly increasing file sizes on disk. Expect higher visual fidelity in your games and environments.

- Lumen (Global Illumination system) Updates: 
Lumen has received improvements for better reflections on translucent materials and more efficient calculations.

- Virtual Shadow Map Performance Boost: 
Enjoy faster rendering thanks to optimized Virtual Shadow Maps.

Animation Updates

- Motion Matching: This new tool provides a straightforward way to create realistic character animations within games. It's been used successfully in Fortnite since Chapter 5.

- Control Rig Improvements: Control Rig, Unreal Engine's animation rigging system, gets upgrades offering a more streamlined workflow.

Workflow and Productivity

- World Partition & Large World Coordinate (LWC) System Refinements: 
Creating and managing massive open worlds gets easier with enhancements to the systems responsible for handling them.

- New UI Styling System: 
Customize the look and feel of your in-game interfaces more easily with this new styling system.

Non-Gaming Industries Pricing Update

- New Seat-based Subscription: Unreal Engine is introducing a seat-based annual subscription model ($1,850 per seat ). This applies to companies generating over $1 million USD in annual gross revenue and not actively developing games.

Important Note: For game development, the familiar royalty-based licensing model remains the same.

Can you tell when social media is shaping your reality?
What if those hailed as experts got there through follows and likes, not actual expertise? 

This isn't cynicism, it's how algorithms can be manipulated. The Metaverse hype is a perfect example.

Many still think the Metaverse is a virtual world like Roblox or Decentraland. That's the result of a business sentiment built on shaky information!

The Metaverse will be a foundational IT infrastructure, a communication layer for machines and humans alike. VR/AR are part of it, but it goes far beyond games. Anyone saying the Metaverse is "already here" or "still vague" is either uninformed or selling you something.

Here's the problem: 
When likes and comments become currency, bad information gets amplified. Suddenly, that's what businesses base decisions on.

How it works: 
Fake followers, orchestrated engagement...there are tricks to boost visibility and make someone seem influential. Sadly, it often works.

Don't fall for the hype! 
It's NOT about bashing social media, it's about being a savvy consumer of information.

Always research thoroughly. Learn enough to distinguish true expertise from slick presentation. Question those with the biggest reach – are their insights actually valuable or just meant to build more influence?
