California Department of Rehabilitation

As the South Lake Tahoe office Service Coordinator for the California Department of Rehabilitation I help disabled people get, keep, and advance in their jobs. That often begins with duties such as processing applications and conducting intake interviews. Once someone is receiving services my duties include communicating and coordinating with them and stakeholders such as department personnel in other offices, schools, vendors, and independent service providers to make sure clients are getting the goods and services prescribed in their individual plans for employment. Once client cases are ready for closure I help with the closure processing. Throughout I support the rehab counselor in my office with the few things only he can do because they are above my classification level. Plus, since our office does not have any of the other staff typical to larger offices I also perform many clerical and office management duties as well as support the other two offices in my unit when they are shorthanded on staff. Since every case is different and there are occasional special projects there is rarely a dull moment or lack of work.

Analyzed and evaluated various documents to ensure compliance with statutory and procedural requirements. Communicated to customers verbally or in writing the reasons for the rejection of non-compliant documents. Reviewed images and paper documents, and imputed and retrieved information from databases. Answered customer’s telephone inquiries about statutory and procedural requirements for document filings and information requests. Confered with other staff regarding customer inquiries, documents, and information requests.

Provided information on health insurance plans, costs, and services. Answered questions regarding application and enrollment processes and requirements. Interacted with customers and potential customers to identify and find ways to meet their needs. Determined eligibility for premium assistance tax credits and cost sharing reduction subsidies. Helped customers apply for health insurance and assistance, enroll in plans, and other related needs. Worked on special projects as assigned.
