Here’s the ONE thing I’ve learned after talking to 62 of the top 100 experiential marketing agencies.

These are the teams winning awards, on lists, praised in the press…

They are all underwater. 

What does this mean?

First, it reconfirms the fact that I have zero envy for agency owners. It’s a tough tough business model.

Second, the system is broken.

> Margins are too thin.
> Full time talent is burned out.
> Clients are cheap.
> Time to deliver is too short.
> Winning new business costs too much. 

The industry has shifted.

Behind all the websites that look the same and mantras like “we build life-changing experiences” is just what you think…

another over-worked team, that lacks good systems and is clawing for new business.

So what’s the solution?

We HAVE to get teams out of the weeds. We have to find at least 50% efficiency in the market otherwise a lot of fantastic teams are going to go under.

Our platform tackles this head on but whether it’s with us or not, agency leaders need to massively reorient their value proposition, target solutions not services and implement efficiency tools.

There are trends and then there are movements. This is one of them I’ve had my eye on and am now a part of.

Over the weekend I flew out to Chicago to help produce an AM Radio X Starbucks Reserve pop-up during Lollapalooza.

I don’t produce as many projects these days (only ones I’m passionate about) but I’ve been watching my friend Dan Motl build this amazing event property for the last couple months and want to do everything I can to help them be successful.

AM RADIO kicked off this coffee x DJ movement that is taking the country by storm. 

With a younger generation who is fading away from massive alcohol consumption and late nights, these daytime raves have exploded in popularity.

AM Radio has built up such a reputation that they don’t even release the artist names in advance and they sell out anywhere they go in hours.

Now big brands are calling them up to partner and try and jump on the coattails of this new form of content, culture and gathering that they’ve created.

Meanwhile, all the big corporate incumbents are shaking in their boots because they’ve lost touch.

It’s truly amazing to watch and be a part of.

The average cost to respond to an RFP?...do you have a guess?

The experiential marketing industry is one of the most complex when it comes to customized pitches and variable costs. This equates to a lot of time to sort out a pitch.

$45,000 is the average cost per RFP per agency.

A brand will on average send out 6 RFPs.

That means $225,000 was "wasted" on that ONE pitch exercise from that ONE brand.

Now scale that out across the entire industry and that's 10's of millions in sunk costs to prop up the activations that we end up seeing IRL.

We can quickly see why a lot of agencies are bleeding a slow (expensive) death.

Over the past 10 months we've been building a machine that automates most of what you see in Phase 2 below. 

What does that mean?

We're seeing teams cut their pitch time/cost by 50% so they get more pitches out the door, more at bats, more wins. 

= more cool event experiences in the world
= agencies can survive longer
= teams aren't as burned out
