Seven years ago today I woke up as a widower - my wife died in her sleep at 47. 

I had to wake my daughters with the news of their mother’s death and that she was with the LORD. 

I planned a funeral. 

I lived off life insurance benefits for a year as I grieved. 

Those same benefits replaced my income as a small business owner as I cared for my daughters and myself. 

Those same benefits helped us take a once in a lifetime trip as we healed and remembered. 

Those same benefits helped me pay for my oldest daughter’s wedding. 

I’ve experienced the power of life insurance and its many benefits. 

For these reasons and many more is why I do what I do. 

Ben Newman calls this the “burn”. 

I’m passionate about helping people be financially prepared for the moments in life that change our lives - the good ones and the bad ones. And I’m passionate about them knowing the LORD. 

The moments that change our lives don’t send a calendar invite. They just show up.

What’s in a name?

A few days ago I spoke with a new client and mentioned that my hometown was near him and that my late Dad and late brother used to own a restaurant there called The Butcher Block Cafe.

He said he remembered it and then began describing the food in a such a way that we were both longing for it! 😂😋The fried chicken sandwiches were A.MA.ZING!

He said, “Your Dad and family were ‘good people’. You could tell they took pride in what they did.”

I’ve heard that and similar sentiments from others over the years, and each time I hear it I feel such a deep joy, love, and pride for my family and our name. 

I loved and deeply respected my Daddy. He was always kind, loving, giving, treated people right, worked incredibly hard, and took great care and pride in the food he prepared for his customers. 

He didn’t have great wealth, but he had a great name. 

I want to preserve my family’s name and pass a good name to my children and future grandchildren. 

So, what’s in a name? For me - values, identity, family, purpose. 

Proverbs 22:1 - “A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, favor is better than silver and gold.”

But I value the name ‘Redeemed by the LORD’ more. 

My true identity is found in Christ. And His purpose for my life (and your life) exceeds anything we can imagine.
