As the CEO of Rise Against Hunger Africa, I am fortunate to spend my days doing something that genuinely makes an impact. Driving this is a passion for collaboration, sustainable development, and making a difference in the lives of the children we support. Although I spent most of my career in hospitality, operating conferencing and banqueting centres, restaurants, and other related ventures, I always felt something was missing - something beyond serving memorable food, beverages and experiences for our guests. I discovered and joined Rise Against Hunger Africa as the Gauteng Branch Manager, and as the organisation grew, I was appointed the National Operations Manager. I was later appointed interim CEO and took on the official role in February 2019. Some of the lessons I've learned and accomplishments I've seen are: In my first year as CEO, we broke records for the number of meals packed, distributed, and beneficiaries supported. When COVID-19 hit, we faced new challenges but navigated them gracefully and determinedly. We work closely with partners, donors, and volunteers to ensure initiatives have the greatest possible impact. Our focus on collaboration sets us apart at Rise Against Hunger Africa (RAH). We've formed partnerships with big names in Southern Africa, but we also rely on the support of individual donors and volunteers who believe in our mission. I've learned as CEO the importance of building a strong, cohesive team. But we can only achieve incredible things together by empowering people to take responsibility, encouraging personal growth, and creating a culture of inclusivity. Being in this position is a privilege - but it's also a huge responsibility. We owe it to our donors, our staff, and most importantly, to the beneficiaries we serve to do our best.
