My major current interest is how we can use technology to solve the Literacy crisis in the West, and worldwide. Millions of kids leave school functionally illiterate today, in both the UK and the USA. This is because they don't master reading in the first years of school, develop dysfunctional coping strategies to hide the fact through the rest of their school life, and muddle through without really understanding much of what they are taught. By helping every child to read fluently at an early age, we can greatly increase the learning they do in school, and provide them with skills for life. I am a founder of ProfitAbility and one of the creative forces in the development of learning-by-doing training. I analyse client challenges and recommend learning solutions that deliver business results through a blend of live online sessions, classroom exercises, on the job tasks and self-paced interactive learning. The content varies widely. By using high engagement, active learning approaches and focusing on application on the job, we deliver real business results. I have worked with big companies worldwide, on many successful training projects. I have a lifelong obsession with the mind and learning, whether physical skills such as juggling and water sports, or thinking skills and knowledge. I am a language nut (who else would study Esperanto, Chinese and Hindi?) and a musician, playing the electronic clarinet (EWI) in my spare time.
