Hi, I'm Brooke! Seattle based, professional photographer for more than two decades and founder of luxury, full service Studio B Portraits.  Here’s what people typically want to know about me before they trust me with their face. 

Shall we begin with a casual reference... "oh did I drop that name" to People Magazine, GQ, Disney, Ford Models, Grammy winning celebrities, and the who's who of the c-suite in my portfolio? 🤭 😂 I'm actually really proud of the work but the stories are even better. That's where my heart is happy and likely why I like personal branding stuff so much. It's your story and that connection that makes the images so special to create together.

Northwest raised + Husky for life, I graduated from the University of Washington and moved to Southern California. Many seasons of palm trees, sunshine and a cool career in marketing, branding + celebrity PR led me to professional photography with Ford Models Teen & Youth division (I went to an open call with my old-school portfolio in a 3 ring binder) and fast tracked to the most amazing opportunities shooting for the biggest names in the Fortune 500.

For a girl obsessed with old Hollywood glam, Vogue magazine and pop culture… it really could not have been any better. While my career and passion for all things fashion and photography grew… so did my family. With another child on the way, my husband and I took a leap of faith and moved our expanding family back to Seattle to give birth to our second baby and also… Studio B Portraits.  

Fun fact — when I started it was only Brooke. The “B” in Studio B Portraits was literally the single letter (and boot strapping person) making things happen. :-)

Twenty years later, there have been many pinch me moments (magazine covers, high profile projects and dreamy locations) -  I feel incredibly blessed to have a talented Studio B Team of really wonderful people to work with each day, making “You On Your Best Day” magic for you… our really lovely clients.

Crazy thing is, I don’t even know Brian Stivers  But here I am sharing his founder story.

That’s the power of personal branding and LinkedIn. The right story can take a stranger and turn them into someone who’s rooting for you.

Why I Quit My High-Paying Tech Job (and you shouldn’t)

38 years old - making more money than I ever thought possible. The kind of income most people would consider “making it.”

Yet… something was wrong.

I didn’t feel like myself.

It was like I was watching my life in 3rd person- some kind of simulation. Too cookie-cutter. Too happily-ever-after.

On paper, I had “won.” In reality, I felt trapped.

So I asked myself the question I’d been avoiding for years:

Okay… I make more money. Then what? Another promotion? A bigger paycheck? An even bigger house with more square footage?

At some point, chasing zeros stops being exciting.

That’s when I had my Aha Moment: I wasn’t energized by money. I was energized by growth. By building. By creating something new.

And the truth? I was comfortable.

Too comfortable.

I had worked at the same company for 13 years. I knew the world inside and out. I was so good at my job I could run on autopilot and still be a top performer.

That’s when it hit me: I was an NPC.

I wasn’t writing my own story. I was just a side character in someone else’s.

I played the tape forward, and envisioned 10, 20 years down the line. Same company. Same path. Same story. And I couldn’t stomach it.

It was time to be the main character in my own life.

So, I quit.

I walked away from a stable, high-paying job to put all my energy into entrepreneurship.

Sounds glamorous, right? Here’s the truth: it’s terrifying.
The steady paychecks are gone.
The status of a big-tech role is gone.

Instead, I’m betting everything on myself.

The good news? I’m not starting from scratch. Over the past decade I built the exact skills I need for this chapter:
➡️ Sales
➡️ Marketing
➡️ Presentation & Storytelling
➡️ Technical skills
➡️ Problem-solving under pressure
➡️ Project management
➡️ Product development

My career in Solutions Consulting was the perfect training ground. It forced me to be part-sales, part-engineer, part-psychologist, part-problem solver.

It was the apprenticeship I didn’t know I needed for entrepreneurship.

And after waiting my whole life to “be ready,” I realized there is no perfect moment. This is it. It's time to burn the ships.

Since then? It’s been a wild ride. Terrifying. Exhilarating. But for the first time in while, I feel fully alive.

So why do I say you shouldn’t quit your high-paying job?

Because most people are happy being comfortable. And that’s okay.

In fact, I admire the ones who can be content with what they have.

But me? I’m not built that way.

Is it a toxic trait? Maybe.
(Just don’t ask my exes.)
