I walked away from a ₹5.5L retreat. Here's why.

It was Friday. I was two days into a 7-day immersion with my coach.

This was a big one, ₹5.5 lakhs.
No refund. No replay. Ankush Jain only does this twice a year.

And I had looked forward to it for months.

But back home, Sasha Chhetri had just been admitted to the hospital with dengue.

We had everyone around - my parents, her parents, even her maasi.
Nyra wasn't alone. Everything was being taken care of.

And yet… I wasn't okay.

Friday morning, her condition dropped further.

I was sitting in this peaceful retreat space, two hours outside London, and my head was spinning:

"Should I go back?"
"Am I overthinking?"
"What would Sasha do if it were me?"

Then, in the middle of a meditative exercise, something landed
so clearly, so calmly, I couldn't ignore it:

"This immersion is now complete for me."

That was it.

No panic. No drama. Just quiet clarity.

I went to Ankush and told him. I had already been texting my travel agent about flights. And by 5PM that day, I made the call, I'm going home.

Not because things were falling apart.

But because I knew what mattered more.

And here's the truth: It was so easy to justify staying.
I was all in - investing deeply, learning fast. Sasha had support, and I had her unwavering backing.

But I kept thinking:
If I say my family comes first, then this is what it looks like.

Not just saying it. Living it.

When I walked in, Sasha was visibly relieved. She hadn’t expected me, her eyes welled up the moment she saw me.
And I was so grateful I didn't abandon what I knew deep down.

That decision taught me something:

Acting on what's important is a completely different game than saying it's important.

And when I'm in this situation again, I won't hesitate.

What's one decision you made this year that was hard, but right?

Most Indian business owners think pleasing their clients will give them a sale.

I’ve watched too many good salespeople lose the deal by trying to win it.
Because they forgot: people buy when they feel safe, not sold to.

If your team is trying harder to sell, your sales will usually drop.

More scripts. More pressure. More talking.

Less trust.

I see this mistake often.
Teams are trained to pitch before they’re trained to connect.

They focus on saying the right words instead of creating the right feeling.

But no one buys it because the script was perfect.
People buy when they feel understood.

The real goal of the first conversation is simple:
Build a relationship.

That means teaching your team to:

1. Connect before they convince
2. Listen more than they speak
3. Slow the conversation down instead of rushing to close

When a customer feels safe, the conversation opens.
When the conversation opens, trust forms.
And trust is what moves decisions forward.

Stop asking your team to “close the call.”
Ask them to build trust on the call.

Sales will follow, without being forced.

That’s how sustainable selling actually works.
