Taylored Foods Limited

During 2013 and early 2014 Merit Meats consulted to Taylor Preston Limited on the start-up of their new Taylored Foods Limited value-added factory. Responsibilities included delivering site upgrade, market accreditation, business plan, registering the TFL888 premises number, coordinating branding and corporate identity, optimizing key assets, sales, setting specifications, procuring raw materials, driving continuous process improvement and carrying out new product development.

Titan Meat Company Limited

In February 2010, National Meats NZ Limited and Silver Fern Farms Limited formed a joint venture named Titan Meat Company Limited. I was responsible for setting and implementing business strategy. During the period of the JV I recruited a new management team, rolled out new inventory, KPI reporting and e-cert compliance systems. Revenues were grown at 20%+ p/a, workforce was rationalised and reorganised into functional groups. SKUs were rationalised from 900 to 60. Silver Fern Farms exercised an option to purchase National Meats NZ Limited's 50% share of the JV on 30 September 2012.

National Meats NZ Limited

I was responsible for starting the business and finding the initial customer base and product range. We regularly exhibited at the ANUGA and SIAL trade fairs in Cologne and Paris as well as IFE in London. We migrated several cooked meat products from Europe back to our factory in New Zealand.

Started new venture and business model in the United Kingdom to protect parent company quota interests. Developed new business into Scandinavia, Russia and West Africa.

I was responsible for business development in new export markets. Developed innovative Liberty Leg product. Registered www.lamb.co.nz. Overhauled HORIZON branding and created new STAR brand. Project leader for the team that created the innovative Liberty Leg product to maximise value and quota.

During my OE I was lucky enough to work in the West Highlands of Scotland for the largest salmon farmer in the world. Our team was responsible for measuring growth rates, fertility and yield for different breeds and sites. Great job. Wonderful views. Top whiskey. Terrible place to meet girls.

I'm fortunate to have had a wide experience and education in the sourcing, production and elaboration of meat and wild game during which, I have worked with, and learned from, some of the best in the business.

As a chief executive, I pride myself on adjusting quickly to change, developing new ideas and creating the right working environments for innovation. I have a long-held passion for new product development but always guided by identified customer needs or a clear marketing strategy. The best examples of my work involve a motivated team optimizing unique company resources. 

I'm married to Julie and father of Finn (19) and Zach (16).
