Motivation: Ocean acidification has gained attention from scientists, media, public, and policy makers over the last several years because it affects the physiology and behavior of marine organisms (e.g. the ability of marine calcifiers to calcify) and will decrease sound adsorption in the ocean at low frequencies. 
Research Objective: To understand what drives pH variation in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island.
Duties:
• Evaluated and validated pH data using chemical and physical properties ( e.g., alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, salinity, and temperature)
• Calculated the correction factor of measurements using standards
• Determined the statistical uncertainty of measurements due to the sampling method by using data taken for quality control and assurance (QC/QA) 
•  Developed modules in VBA to generate titration curves from  laboratory titration data from source files (Excel).
• Data migration: developed tools to extract, manage, and analyse marine chemistry data provided by external data providers from source files (Excel, text, csv) to data arrays using MATLAB and python.
• Signal analysis of pH electrode data to understand temporal variations in relation to biological activity
• Verified and quantified the significance of fluctuations recorded by pH electrode measurements 
• Numerically determine how error propagates in parameters calculated with a model of the carbon dioxide system.
• Developed scripts in MATLAB to analyse and visualize marine chemistry data to understand seasonal fluctuations in pH, alkalinity, and total inorganic carbon.
