Programming and systems administration on a customer project for an neural net based adaptive modem over copper.  Silicon Labs 8051 programming.
•	C & C++ setup under Atmel Studio 6.2 (SAM4E) and Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 for the team.
•	Setup of the version control system (Git) and the internal server. 
•	Programming the SAM4E microprocessor (initially using the SAM4E-EK (Evaluation Kit and reference design) and SAM-ICE debugging tool and later with A&A designed hardware using Xilinx FPGAs. 
•	Introduced the use of the CMSIS libraries (signal processing) for translated neural net code originally developed under MATLAB. Test software included use of the Wireshark and PCAP tools to provide programs to track dropped packets and bit error rate tests under loopback and wired tests.

Development of foreign language libraries and programs for the Proximity Technology division, which special emphasis on hyphenation, spelling and word inventories with parts of speech.  The libraries written in portable C language and are designed to support a large number of platforms which in turn are written in C, C++, Java and a number of other languages. Heavy emphasis on compression, access times and the ability to execute on limited hardware such as that encountered in embedded systems. The main development was under RedHat and QA scripts and ported to Windows and I did the ports to the Macintosh environments under both x86 and PowerPC. Heavy emphasis on regression test suites which enables monthly bug free deliveries. Developed tests downstream of the  test suites for code coverage by using the gcov and gprof utilities.

Set up and systems administration of a medium sized Red Hat server installation.  This included migration from a number of earlier Red Hat and Solaris servers, migration of user accounts (400), setups of Samba, NFS and NIS and setup of a second backup server under Centos.  This included daily rsync live data backup.  Set up a backup scheme from the main server to NAS storage (short term) and tape array backup.  Setup of the development tools needed for the project (compilers, version control systems, etc.)  Work with CVS and administration of multiple versions of products in the field.

I was able to leverage my knowledge of French and Russian into a wider applications across the entire Franklin language set.

Senior Software Engineer

Consultant assigned to IBM in Endicott, NY.  Java programming and debugging of installation programs under various flavors of Linux and Unix. Three specialties were of use, 1) Diagnosis and bug fixes in the foreign language versions of IBM installation software, 2) Real time programming in Java/C and 3) Remote debugging of computer systems in located in foreign countries and in local languages.

Red Hat Linux Perl and C programming for internationalization projects at the Proximity Division of Franklin Electronic Publishers Inc. (Burlington NJ) as an OEMed product major software companies specializing in publishing products.  Product shipped 11 new languages (8 hyphenated) and my work included hyphenation, dictionary handling, character set manipulation and lexical analysis.  Analysis and documentation of make systems, meeting with linguists and XML file definition and manipulation. The project met evolving Adobe standards and code improvements included full regression tests with 100% code coverage, and making the library thread safe.

Lotus Domino 6.0 and 5.0 C++ API 2.3 based addin programming for a large e-mail archiving system as part of the AXS-One (Rutherford, NJ) Enterprise Content Management System (ECM) for companies needing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.  Microsoft VC++ 6.0, Lotus C++ API 2.3, the Lotus XML Toolkit 1.0, the C APIs 6.0.2 and 5.0.6 under Windows 2003 Server. The multithreaded environment used the Windows conventions along with additional Notes requirements.  Did work to translate Notes strings to STL (Standard Template Library) strings to share date with the downstream search and indexing applications for Sarbanes-Oxley support..

Enhanced Telephony and Computer Solutions

Lotus Notes (Domino) web based programming for a medical office scheduling and exam system.  This included form design, Java (Lotus object model) and LotusScript programming under Notes 6.0.  MySQL was used for downstream analysis.  Installation of RAID systems on Windows 2000 and 2003 servers.  VMware was used for environment testing.

J2EE 1.3 Programming as part of a data translation project using Borland JBuilder Enterprise for MetLife.  This included debugging (decompilation and rebuilding) of a large Chordiant Inc. framework and Struts was used for the GUI under Windows and Solaris.

Enhanced Telephony and Computer Solutions, NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, Verizon

Assignments at NYNEX, NYNEX Mobile and the successor companies, including the mergers with Bell Atlantic and GTE that formed Verizon. The NYNEX (land lines) systems worked with the classic Bell/BellCore derived systems and at NYNEX Mobile worked on the MTAS (Mobile Telephone Activation System) that is still used to interface billing systems to the telephone switches. NYNEX Mobile (and separately Bell Atlantic Wireless) built an entire telephone company from scratch. Experienced telephone personnel (like myself) worked at NYNEX Mobile to design and implement an entire telephone company without using any software derived from the land line side of the business. Mostly I used C, Informix and various communications tools to interface to three different billing systems (due to the merges) and a variety of telephone switches, voice mail units, voice activated dialing units, paging and digital mail systems. I went to NYNEX Mobile when the number of users was under one million and when the assignment ended there were 7.7 million customers.

I have worked for large companies and small ones.  Zigging back and forth is good because in small companies I got to do the project myself, and then when I got an assignment at a larger company, I could apply the techniques either being able to show the other team members how, or do an expanded version in cooperation with a larger team.
