I'm about to turn 25. There is pressure to come back to Geneva. Friends and family members of my age are getting jobs and trying to convince me to move back, start a real life. Real life meant making money, buying a house, getting settled. But I am nowhere near these considerations. I want to live, live the life I will never regret and travel the world, the way you do when you don't have anything. 

So on to the next program!  A French government program is offering management positions to junior professionals, around the globe. The trick is, if you get selected, you can be sent almost anywhere. But what it meant was in the middle of nowehere.

Lucky me, I got Casablabca, Morrocco. That's what I though for about 24 horus, until I got a phone call telling me a bomb had just exploded near the place I'd work in a couple of weeks... 

Finally nothing tragic happened while I was stationned there but it was probably the craziest experience I have ever had. 

Seconded from the Language and Education Department of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

Cultural activity Coordinator:
- Informing students about the University language and cultural activities requirements 
- Developing organizational strategy to implement the requirements

After 10 years baby-sitting, tutoring, cooking hamburgers, serving pizzas, cleaning offices, filling shelves, tagging sportwear and even home-parties selling... while earning a high school diploma and 2 masters degrees with awards, I finally get to teach! 

This is it: my first class. I am handed the Freshmen. Two Introduction levels and the oral and writing classes with full control over curriculum, content, material and pedagogy. 

Cherry on the cake, I become Head of the French club, planning, organizing and animating the sessions. (The birth of The Language Practice right here...)

I love it. The freedom, the energy of the classroom, the university students' dreams and hope they will succeed and change the world. I want to to change the world too. So I do it, by changing theirs first.

Right then and there, I knew I had made the right choice.

Comment ma stagiaire a décroché son stage alors que je ne voulais pas de stagiaire? 



💁‍♂️  Recommandée par une personne de mon réseau professionnel, elle réussit à se faire remarquer. (Hello “ Joe” Giuseppe CILONA) 
                           
🖋️ Nous échangeons par écrit. Sa communication irréprochable la fait immédiatement sortir du lot. 

👩‍🎓  Des notes excellentes, un projet d’études clair et une motivation qui fait plaisir à entendre, elle décroche un entretien. 

💼  Attitude professionnelle, excellente présentation et confiance, on voit qu’elle a déjà travaillé malgré son jeune âge, Elle gagne le point de la crédibilité #Decahtlon. Les choses sérieuses peuvent commencer…

📋  Elle m’explique en quelques mots les tenants et aboutissants du stage mais surtout elle installe ce climat de confiance et les échanges se prolongent dans une ambiance collaborative. En réalité, she’s already in. 

🫵🏻   Mais il va quand même falloir me convaincre. Et pour ça, elle ne parle plus d’elle et de stage mais de Hackcent et de ce qu’elle pourrait lui apporter. Chaque objection trouve réponse claire et rassurante. Elle vient de démontrer qu’elle sait faire ce pour quoi elle est là. 

😍  Et les soft skills? Une énergie débordante, totalement l’aise à l’oral et un certain franc parler, elle est aussi déterminée qu’attachante,  je suis conquise. 

🤝   Mais je suis dans une période très chargée. Alors elle ne lâche rien: elle me relance, elle fait le lien entre les différentes parties et s’occupe de la paperasse administrative pour s’assurer sa place. 


Tous les éléments étaient là, je ne pouvais pas refuser 😊

J’avais la naïveté de penser que ce type de pensées avaient disparu de nos sociétés ou du moins qu’elles n’étaient plus exprimées en public.

Rassurez-moi: c’est un cas isolé en 2024?
