In 2012, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. I was trained by the Air Force as a medical laboratory technician. There are many different areas of lab work, but I specialized in microbiology. After separating from the military, I continued to work in microbiology for years. Although I was great at my job, it wasn’t something I felt extremely passionate about. I always wanted to find a career that would allow me to use my creative side. I just didn’t know what that career would be… until I found web development. I believe many of the qualities that made me a great lab tech – attention to detail, critical thinking, working in fast paced environments – transfer perfectly into programming. In addition, I love to learn! And as we know, there is always something new to learn in tech. So far, I’ve acquired skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Svelte, Vue, React, Tailwind, SASS, Bootstrap, Jest, Whimsical, Storybook, and Git/GitHub. I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, while continuing to work on personal projects to continue learning any new languages, frameworks, or principles I can.
