I’m Charity Hix. I’m an introvert and retired physician supporting introverted healthcare professionals who feel exhausted, disconnected, or unsure about their future in medicine. 

I help my clients reclaim their energy, navigate career uncertainty, and build a work life that finally fits who they are. 

You don’t have to keep running on empty or force yourself into a role that no longer works for you. With the right strategies, you can create a career that feels both sustainable and fulfilling—whether that means adjusting how you work, redefining your role, or exploring new possibilities.

What if what you want is closer than you think?
 
 
Ever since friends of mine shared their photos of the Giant’s Causeway, taken on a family trip to Ireland, I’ve been fascinated by basalt rocks.
 
Nature makes the coolest things!
 
I put this natural wonder on my “Someday” bucket list and started making a mental tally of “all the things” it would take to get me there. 
 
Fast forward to present. I just got back from a delightful (mostly) offline week with friends. We were visiting Virginia, just over a half a day’s drive for me. 
 
And guess what I saw. Basalt rocks! Instead of being offset by a deep blue ocean, they were framed by a bright, clear sky. 
 
It made me think of how many times we assume what we want is far, far away. We count the imaginary hurdles we must overcome to get to the “there” we so desperately want. 
 
Yet, if we pause, consider our resources, and open ourselves to the idea that there’s more than one way to find what we’re seeking, we can be pleasantly surprised to discover we’re much closer to the goal than we thought. 
 
Today’s suggestion: consider something you’ve been wishing for and brainstorm how you might get it sooner rather than later.

Hi, there! I'm Charity. I'm a physician, introvert, and nature-lover serving those who are experiencing burnout in healthcare. 

Two of my joys are learning and helping others feel better. That’s what attracted me to medicine in the first place. 

Once I began my clinical rotations, however, I discovered that the current medical model isn’t ideal for my introverted personality. I like to dig deep and focus. In many of our work settings, multitasking and speed seem to be prioritized. 

Being goal-oriented and a bit of a perfectionist (I'm a work in progress), I still jumped into medicine with full commitment. It was a privilege to care for every patient that trusted me with the health of their eyes.

Having said that, I’ve always known I wouldn’t be practicing medicine forever. The sad part is, over the last several years, I’ve seen ambitious, smart people who thought they would be in their chosen field forever start to falter. It’s happening in almost every field. 

People are struggling. I want to help. 

I support creative, smart introverts in healthcare who want to escape the feelings of apathy, irritability, and resentment that have seeped into their lives due to the increasing demands and decreasing rewards of their career. I help them honor and prioritize themselves, create sustainable energy, and drop the guilt over wanting something better.

My philosophy:
*We have the right to LIVE our lives, not just survive them.
*Curiosity, play, and exploration aren't just for kiddos.
*Seeking delight and pleasure isn't selfish or irresponsible.
*Nature is essential to our well-being.
*Quiet is powerful.
