There are two of the most important decisions a man makes in life:

His commitment to Christ.
His commitment to his bride.

So what is marriage?

Today, marriage is often treated as a milestone to achieve—a checkbox, a goal, a means to have children. But marriage is far more than that.

At its core, marriage is a reflection of God’s love for us.

Scripture tells us that a man should leave his father and mother, cling to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

Think about the human body for a moment.
Have you ever seen a foot walking down the street by itself?
(Unless it’s a cartoon.)

The body is designed to be connected. And so is marriage.

Many people rush into marriage.
Our story was different—and beautifully simple.

We were living our lives, following God, and one day we looked up and realized the Lord had naturally led us to one another.

But preparation mattered:
• 13 months of premarital counseling
• Guidance from pastors and seasoned married couples
• Choosing to wait
• Learning how to communicate and even argue in healthy ways

All of this came from putting God first.

That doesn’t mean the journey has been easy. (12 years later- 2 beautiful boys)
• Financial challenges
• Five miscarriages
• Loss of loved ones
• Building a business together
• Moving to a new state

But marriage isn’t about the absence of trials—it’s about the foundation you build on.

It’s amazing how some things don’t really change.

I recently took my boys to Chuck E. Cheese—my childhood stomping grounds.

Walking back into that “sacred place” through the lens of an adult was a funny experience.

As a kid, all I noticed was:
• The joy of unlimited games
• Pizza
• Tickets after every game
• The excitement when Chuck E. Cheese came out
• The ball pit and playground

That’s what stood out to me then.

As an adult, it’s easy to notice something entirely different:
• A one-hour wait for pizza
• Limited seating
• Bathrooms that barely work
• Game machines broken down
• A tired, worn-down Chuck E. Cheese

But here’s the reality:

What you choose to focus on can either fill you up or frustrate you.

That’s true at Chuck E. Cheese… and in life.

It makes sense why Jesus said the greatest in the Kingdom are like children. Their innocence, joy, and purity of heart allow them to see what truly matters.

So today, I’m asking myself—and you:

What are you focusing on?

The things that lift you up… or the things that bring you down?

Vision without structure becomes frustration

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in healthcare when it comes to receiving care for families is this:

Families don’t usually wait because they don’t care — they wait because they don’t know.

Taking tough situations and making the best of them — that’s what life is really about.

How many moments in life have you faced where:
• A loved one is sick
• They need home health
• They need hospice
• They’re in the hospital
• They’re battling cancer

And you’re left asking… what do we do now?

Life is but a vapor.
So whatever moments you have —
be present.
love deeply.
and make the most of them.

That’s healthcare.
That’s life.

As leaders, many of us start a new year with big vision, big goals, and a long list of things we want to improve.

The problem isn’t motivation.
The problem is dilution.

Over the years, I’ve learned this the hard way:

Vision without focus creates frustration.

One of the most important leadership disciplines I’m leaning into is this:

Every 90 days, choose just 3 things to focus on.

Not 10 goals.
Not a long resolution list.
Not “everything at once.”

Just 3.

• One personal focus
• One business growth focus
• One operational or leadership focus

These become your guardrails.

Each week, you ask:
“If I only moved these 3 things forward, would this quarter still be a win?”

If the answer is yes—you’re leading with clarity.

Execution doesn’t require more hustle.
It requires fewer priorities and better alignment.

As we step into a new year, my encouragement to fellow leaders is simple:

Don’t lower your vision.
Narrow your focus.

Big dreams become reality when they’re given structure, time, and discipline.
