I'm Charley, I'm Lancastrian and I bloody love coffee and blustery, weekend walks. I’m an experienced paid media professional and I have worked with a range of platforms and suppliers including (but not limited to): Google Adwords, Google Analytics, Microsoft Advertising/Bing, DoubleClick, Stitcher Ads, Criteo, Apple and Spotify.

I am Google certified in Search, Shopping, Display and Mobile as well as also being certified in Google Analytics, Search Ads 360 & Microsoft Ads.

How did I go from zero to hero on LinkedIn in 6 months?

Easy. 


I didn't. 

But what I did do, is commit to building my personal brand in order to elevate The PPC Academy so that more amazing people would find out about the community and events. A few examples of how I've been doing this are:

But GUESS WHAT?!

I WHOLE HEARTEDLY believe in what I'm doing. 

So I guess it kind of makes it all worth it?🤔🙃😂

Oh yes. 

My PPC bezzie mate (he doesn't know I call him this) and all round Manchester guru Gareth W.. 

Gareth has specialised in PPC since 2007, a time before Google Shopping and when exact match MEANT exact. He's worked both client and agency side with responsibility for over £80 million and teams of varying sizes. He's passionate about nurturing talent and providing strong foundations and support for people in PPC. 🤗 

He's also a big reason I got into PPC myself 😍, so OF COURSE we had to have him as a speaker on developing and growing talented managers. 

Gareth will be speaking to us about the how managing from a place of FEAR can cause mayhem in our careers, along with (hopefully) some helpful tips on how to avoid doing this.

Yesterday, I had to face the music 😭 




I'd signed up to do a stupid triathlon to support my stupid best friend. 

I spent all day yesterday, pre-race, negging myself out and asking Michael Hannah to never let me do this again. How could I have been so stupid to think signing up for this was a good idea.

I actually had a full list of reasons why this was going to end in tears:

❌ I've never practised the full run of 3 events consecutively
❌ I haven't cycled on a push bike outdoors since age 13
❌ I only rode the new bike outside training twice
❌ I'd never seen anyone complete one before
❌ Everyone else looked so professional
❌ I've barely slept in the last 2 weeks

But see the weird thing is, whilst there was tears (mine) and it did end (thank god) and all of the above things were true, I still got a medal for finishing. 

And it got me thinking.

It's a lot of the same feelings I have in business. 

So maybe there are some transferable lessons from yesterday we can ALL take into our working week:

✅ A finisher is a finisher, medal & all
✅ If you do hard things, you get better
✅ The body achieves what the mind believes
✅ We can't be an expert before we're a beginner
✅ You have more support out there than you know
✅ Not having done it before ISN'T a reason not to do it

So, what did I learn this weekend? 

Don't stop tri-ing 🏅☠🤣 

😍 Feed Management 😍 

I've said I love feeds before and I'll say it again. 

Here are my 5 top DO's & DONT's for a highly optimised, highly functioning feed:

DO's

👍 Long, informative product titles that contain key attribute info
👍 Out of stock management rules 
👍 Product types fully utilised 
👍 Unique identifiers and group IDs
👍 Product imagery that MATCHES the product info

And then....

DONT's

👎 Short and underutilised character space
👎 Internal naming conventions that the customer doesn't use in titles 
👎 Key attributes missing 
👎 Generic or poor product imagery that's too busy
👎 DUPLICATE TITLES ❌ ❌ ❌
