Investigate surface modification techniques of high-efficiency III-V materials for hydrogen production via. water splitting:
• Developed instrumental set ups and processes used to improve the accuracy of evaluating III-V tandem devices, specifically those with surface modifications, such as MoSx, Pt/Ru, and TiO2, for improved stability and higher efficiencies
• Designed and built one of the first flow through cells for on-sun measurements of these materials while capturing hydrogen gas to back calculate faradaic efficiences.
• Performed methodical investigations into the optimization of using Pt/Ru as a hydrogen evolution reaction (H.E.R) catalyst and protectice coating. 
• Measurement techniques include mass spectrometry (MS), electrochemical current-voltage and galvanostatic/amperometric measurements, incident-photon-to-current-efficiency (IPCE), photocurrent spectroscopy (PCS), 

Thermal Photovoltaics (TPVs)

Investigation into using dielectrics in multi-junction III-V materials for TPVs:
• Processed III-V tandem devices in a state-of-the-art ISO 5 (class 100) cleanroom
• Cleanroom work included photolithography, reactive ion etching (RIE), metal evaporation, wire bonding, deposition of anti-reflective coatings, and selective wet etching.
• Characterization and processing techniques include quantum efficiency (QE), doping densities (Hall measurements), current-voltage relationships, electroluminescence, and use of a class 4 laser to scribe materials.

Spectroscopic Investigation of III-V Tandem Devices
• Applied x-ray photoelectron (XPS), ultraviolet photoelectron (UPS), and inverse photoemission (IPES) spectroscopies to determine the chemical and electronic structure of III-V devices
• Evaluated the effects of low energy Ar+ ion treatments on top junction GaInAsP to calculate the surface’s band gap
• Presented experimental results to collaborators at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)

• Performed maintenance on ultra-high vacuum equipment and calibrated spectrometers/detectors for surface sensitive experiments

• Coded a responsive and multi-device/platform compatible website for the Heske Group

• Electrochemically synthesized and doped polyaniline with varying molar ratios and sequences of Au and/or Pd.
• Chemically synthesized bis(dimethylammonium) tetrachlorogallate as a precursor for electrochemical doping

Synthetic Organic Chemistry Research:
Synthesis of Novel N-Heterocyclic Phosphine Thiourea Derivatives and their Precursors
• Synthesized, purified, and characterized organic compounds via column chromatography, solvent extraction, 1H NMR, IR, and melting points
• Maintained schlenk lines, solvent purification system, and rotavapor to ensure moisture- free reaction conditions
• Presented product yields, synthetic routes, and characterization data on a biweekly basis
