As the trainer in a luxury hotel, I sought out new and innovative ways to train and develop talent in a busy operational environment.  In this function, I delivered in-depth two-day orientations for new hires, facilitated Train the Trainer sessions for our peer-trainers, developed and facilitated a Lunch n' Learn program for Leaders, and delivered meaningful and impactful learning opportunities for our team.  I developed and launched a succession-planning program to develop and move talent within the hotel.  

I also managed the administrative functions in the HR department, provided employee support in a wide variety of functions and chaired the Service Plus Committee, which focused on rewarding and recognizing top talent within the hotel.  

No matter the task, my focus was on ensuring that each and every function that I was entrusted with yielded a tangible result; whether new skills for trainees, or producing results in programs and tasks.

In this internship, I was entrusted with a variety of tasks from prescreening applicants to Health and Safety audits and updating the filing system.  Working under the leadership of some fantastic mentors, this was an excellent learning experience and first foray into the HR field after my education was complete.

Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital

At the emergency hospital, I was the initial point of contact for clients and their pets. I performed the initial triage, and arranged patients according to severity of their illnesses.  I supported pet owners firmly and compassionately, providing whatever support they required during their visit, and ensured doctors had the relevant information to proceed efficiently through their case-load.  I maintained the kennel areas for hospitalized animals that required 24-hour care, and provided support for the nursing staff in restraint, procedures, or as needed.

Overseeing a seasonal team that varied from 30 - 110 people, I maintained an active team management style with a strong focus on identification of staff roles and responsibilities, ensuring concise and accurate management expectations and predictable outcomes.  We built a cohesive, focused team by providing supervisors with the right tools and information to make informed decisions then letting them do their best work.

I developed and implemented annual business plans, which encompassed people, financial management, efficiencies, and alignment.  Forecasted, budgeted and managed the bottom line in a multi-million dollar operating climate.  Assumed a leading role as Process Owner in the formulation and implementation of multiple Lean Six-Sigma projects.  

Identified underutilized technology and successfully leveraged it to automate daily task distribution, which increased operational efficiency and decreased labour costs.

My efforts are always centered around kindness and simplicity; how do I make the organization I work for more effective in the easiest way possible?  How do I make sure that people feel heard, cared for and valued...and that the company's actions reflect that?
