Chiel van der Veen is professor (aka lector) of Urban Care & Education at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, and associate professor of Educational Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His current research focuses on dialogic classroom talk in primary and higher education, play-based learning, and the development of children's social competencies (including oral communication, theory of mind, and social status). He holds a Doctor's degree (PhD) in Educational Sciences, a Master's degree (MSc) in Theory and Research in Education (cum laude) and a Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Primary Teacher Education. He is PI/co-Pi of multiple NRO/NWO-funded research projects, co-PI of a ZonMw project, Comenius Teaching Fellow, supervisor of multiple PhD-projects (Eline van Rossum, Elizabeth Wynberg, Pablo Muruzábal Lamberti, Mireille Smits, Jannette Prins and Iris Bogaers) and editorial board member of 'de Wereld van het Jonge Kind', 'Pedagogiek' and ' the International Journal of Educational Research Open'.
